MORTON – David L. Betteridge, 92, of Athens, Georgia, formerly of Morton, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Avery Village Senior Living in Winterville, Georgia.
He was born on July 2, 1933, in Springfield, Illinois, to Dr. Rev. Bertram (NIM) and M. Jeanette (Graham) Betteridge. David married Mary Anne Spangler on June 27, 1988.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Anne of Athens, Georgia; children, Ronnie (Mila) Betteridge of Peoria, Paul (Kathy) Betteridge of Pekin and Deborah Betteridge of Whitsett, North Carolina; stepdaughter, Denise Spangler (Mark Huber) of Athens, Georgia; grandchildren, Anabelle, Paul, Joe, Tom, Arlene, Christopher, Lindsay, Monica and Kimberly; great-grandchildren, Aubriana, Gavin, Lily, Mila, Presley, Ronnie Jr., Chase, Mason, Camryn, Clara, Rhya, Abe, Elliot and Collin; great-great grandson Teddy; step-grandchildren, Kristi and Matt. He is also survived by his half-sister, Ruth Helen (David) Nystrom of Cave Creek, Arizona and half-brother, John (Virginia) Betteridge of Elmhurst, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Rev. Thelma (Darrell) Betteridge; sisters, Ann Louise Betteridge, Elizabeth (Jim) Evers, Mary (Randy) Poignant; brother, Paul Betteridge; stepson, Scot Spangler and brother-in-law, James Evers.
David enlisted in the U.S. Army in September 1951. He was appointed Warrant Officer in 1961, serving in that capacity until his honorable discharge in 1970.
He graduated from Manual Training High School and then went on to Illinois Central College and Bradley University.
David was a sales representative for Westinghouse Electric Corp and later sold equipment for Hyster, both in Peoria. He was the A/V coordinator and facility manager for Morton Methodist Church from 1998 to 2012 and was a funeral assistant for Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home in Morton for many years. David was on the Village of Morton Zoning Board of Appeals for 12 years from 2004 to 2016 and a Tazewell County Board of Elections judge, retiring in 2020.
He was a member of Morton Methodist Church.
