BLAKE, Mr. David - Age 77, passed away September 21, 2024 at Hurley Medical Center. Family Hour 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at Foss Avenue Baptist Church, 1159 E. Foss Avenue, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Brian Frelix, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Tuesday. Mr. Blake will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00PM Monday, with family present from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends. Mr. David Blake was born October 20, 1946, in Walnut, Mississippi, the son of Elhue and Mary Blake. David departed this life on Saturday, September 21, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife, children, sons-in-love, and grandchildren. He moved to Flint, Michigan in 1965 and obtained a position at General Motors. He went back to Mississippi to get his high school sweetheart Jo and they were married on May 1, 1965 at Foss Avenue Baptist Church, and remained married for 59 precious years.
David was employed by General Motors as a Pipefitter until retirement after 40 years. He was a devoted family man, raising his children, and helping to raise his grandchildren. He gave his life to the Lord at an early age in Walnut, Mississippi. In 1965 he joined Foss Avenue Baptist Church, where he served as an Usher and a Trustee. In 2014 he became a member of Saints of God Church Flint, MI, and in 2023 he became a member of Dedicated Believers Ministries, Flushing, MI. He enjoyed yard work and his garden, playing the guitar, reading, and spending time with family near and far. He was a man of integrity, strength, wisdom, courage, and most of all love. He was also very funny and witty.
Mr. David Blake leaves to cherish his memory: loving devoted wife, Jo; 2 daughters, Tolisha (Ricco) Bates and Davida (Anthony) Artis; grandchildren, David Bates, Marquis Bates, Blake Artis, and Isaiah Artis; sister, Linda (Ronald) Rupert; brother, J.E. (Carol) Blake; a host of nieces and nephews; god-daughter. Stephanie Johnson; sisters-n-law, Mary (Micheal) Wilson, Carla Jeans, Marjorie Prather, Kathryn (Charlie) Rainer; brothers-n-law, Bobby Prather, Ralph Prather, John (Dorothy) Prather and Billy Jeans.
Family members who transitioned before David were his father and mother, Elhue and Mary Blake; father-in-law, John Prather; mother-in-law, Ruby Jeans; sister, Billye Gibson; sister-in-law, Shirley Prather; brothers-in-law, Joe Prather, and Christopher Prather.
A host of other relatives and friends: Mr. and Mrs. Otis Alford, Mr. & Mrs. Allen Bragg Sr., Minister Leonard & Donna Bridges, Mr. and Mrs. Jeffery Reynolds and children Jacai & Jordan Reynolds, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Clarke, Pastor Alfred and Denise Harris, Stephanie Moore, Kay Hatchett, Mr. and Mrs. David Hall, Mr. Mike Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Fowlkes, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Thompson and Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Eason, Mr and Mrs. Michael Motley, Mr. and Mrs. Prentiss Norris, Ms. Cheryl Timberlake, Ms. Cheress Pitttman, Ms. Jackie Hatchett, Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Davis.
