David Alan Bloom was born on October 27, 1953, in Worthington, Minnesota, to Russell and JoAnn (Mahon) Bloom. He grew up in Crystal and later proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. From 1971 to 1974, David worked as a cook while in the service, where he discovered his lifelong passion for baking.

After his honorable discharge, David moved to Robbinsdale and began his professional baking career at Winchell's Doughnuts. He later managed a doughnut shop in Faribault for his uncle. On September 27, 1985, he married Diane Novak at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lonsdale. Together, they welcomed two children, Kassi and David.

David and Diane went on to purchase a Mr. Donut Shop in Shakopee, which they later renamed Donut Connection. Side by side, they operated the bakery for 35 years.

Beyond his work, David was an outdoorsman at heart. He loved pheasant hunting, fishing trips to Reindeer Lake in Canada, and playing cards-especially Texas Hold'em. In 2009, he and Diane purchased a lake home on Norway Lake near New London, which became their cherished summer retreat. In retirement, they spent winters in Apache Junction, Arizona, or traveling across the southern states in their RV.David was a loving husband, father, grandpa and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Diane; daughter: Kassi (Dan) Shiel of Deephaven and granddaughter, Sloane; son: David (Jamie) Bloom of Chippewa Falls, WI and grandchildren: Owen, Elise and Oliver; siblings: Roger (Denise) Bloom, Barb (Tom) Ramsden, Terry (Rita) Bloom and Peggy (Jerry) Domjahn.
