Charlotte, North Carolina - David R. Bodie Jr (Dave) passed away January 24th, 2023, at home surrounded by family. He was born in Greenville, SC and his family moved to Clover, SC where he spent his teenage years. He was the son of Dave and Katie Bodie of Clover, SC. Dave graduated from Clover High School in 1959. He attended Clemson University and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He married Susan Jane Gamble of Charlotte on June 14th, 1969. They made their first home in Greensboro, NC before living for many years in Burlington, NC. They moved back to Charlotte in the early 1980's. Dave loved his family and enjoyed participating in the activities of his children such as Indian Princesses, Indian Guides, baseball & basketball games, and Boy Scouts. Dave's role as a Dad was one that he embraced with zest and purpose. Dave, a proud Eagle Scout himself, was delighted when his son David ("Davey") finished his Eagle Project and made Eagle Scout himself.
Dave enjoyed employment as Director of Finance and Administration at Carolinas Associated General Contractors in Charlotte, NC for many years. Dave's personality was gifted with making decisions and resolving issues using critical thinking and analytical skills.
Family gatherings, weddings, birthdays and holiday celebrations were especially joyful for Dave and Susan. As the years went by, the births of his four granddaughters brought more joy and celebration of life. Dave was blessed with enormous patience, kindness, keen sense of humor, sharp wit and was widely known as a kind and gentle soul. Watching his two oldest granddaughters grow up to be young adults and attending soccer and softball games of his younger grandchildren was so much fun!
Dave is survived by his wife Susan of 53 years. Also surviving are his 2 children, daughter Kimberley Del Casino with husband Eddie of Charlotte; his son David Gamble Bodie with wife Julie of Charlotte; and his precious granddaughters Caroline, Ashton, Campbell and Blake.
Hankins and Whittington Funeral Services is serving the family and will receive friends from 4pm-6pm Sunday January 29th ,2023 at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Home located at 1111 East Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28203. Condolences may be sent to www.hankinsandwhittington.com. A Service of remembrance and celebration of life will be held at 1pm on Monday, January 30th, 2023, at Myers Park United Methodist Church located at 1501 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28207. Burial will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery located at 4426 Central Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28205. Friends are welcome to the family home immediately following the graveside service.
