David Boyd Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Aftercare Cremation Service - South Amboy on Jan. 2, 2026.
David George Boyd, 76, passed away on December 31, 2025. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, David grew up in Laurence Harbor and spent the last 30 years of his life in South Amboy, a place he proudly called home.

David honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1966 to 1972. A devoted veteran, he was a member of the American Legion for more than 50 years and belonged to American Legion Post 62 in South Amboy. Friends there knew they could always find him in the same parking spot and on the same stool-exactly where he liked it.

David worked for over 30 years as a foreman with the Middlesex County Department of Highways and Bridges, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication.

A lifelong baseball fan, David played the game growing up and remained a passionate New York Yankees supporter. Mickey Mantle was his childhood hero, and that admiration never faded.

David had a nickname for everyone he loved. His family knew they were in real trouble only if he used their given names. He affectionately called his children by their nicknames and even introduced them that way to others. Known for his quick wit and endless one-liners, David loved telling-and hearing-a good joke, always leaving those around him laughing.

He was predeceased by his parents, David Boyd and Mildred Kellerman Boyd Frantz, and by his beloved son, Michael J. Boyd, affectionately known as "Mook."

David is survived by his devoted wife, Kathleen Idyk Boyd ("Chat"); his daughter, Sheila ("Bean"); his sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Walter Frantz; his cherished grandchildren, Mariah ("Tink"), David ("DC"), and JJ ("Buckaroo"); as well as his nieces and nephew.

David will be remembered for his humor, loyalty, love of family, and the way he made everyone feel like part of his circle. His presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Shoreland Memorial Gardens Cemetery, State Route 35 North, Hazlet, NJ. A prayer service will be held graveside at 10:30 AM by Father James Hagerman of St. Bernadette's Roman Catholic Church, Parlin, NJ. Military Honor's will follow by the United States Army. Arrangments are under the direction and care of Aftercare Cremation Service, 241 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy, NJ 08879.

I´m very sorry to hear of Dave´s passing. My condolences to David´s family. I have many fond memories working with Dave for Middlesex County. Especially when we both were Heavy Equipment
Operators hauling Blacktop for the Paving Crew before we were Supervisors.

Dave,
We had many good times working at the Rt.9 county garage. Oh, the stories we told. The Yankees opening day games, asking Ron Guidry for directions. Darts & softball games. Then the American Legion days-the "cellar dwellers", picnics, color guard.
My memories will last forever.

Your friend & brother,
Zak
