David Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mitchell Funeral Home - Easthampton on Jan. 15, 2026.
David Harold Brown, of Easthampton, Massachusetts, passed away on January 13, 2026 at Linda Manor Extended Care Facility in Leeds, MA.

He was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, the son of the late Rose (Sires) Brown and Clayton Brown. He grew up in Lee, Massachusetts and graduated from Lee High School in 1966 where he was a four year, three-sport athlete in baseball, football and basketball, playing on many championship Wildcat teams. David is still remembered for his left-handed jump shot, long before the era of the 3-pointer. After graduation David enlisted in the U. S. Army and served in Vietnam from 1967-1968, where he was the recipient of the Purple Heart and achieved the Army rank of Sergeant E-5. After discharge from the Army, he married his high school sweetheart, Carole (McDonough) Brown. They celebrated their 55th anniversary on May 23, 2025. After his military service, David attended Berkshire Community College and then transferred to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where he graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. In 1977 David moved to Easthampton and worked in various sales capacities for the former Stevens Roofing Systems until 2007. Prior to his retirement in 2012, he worked for Sika/Sarnafil in Canton, MA and RCI Roofing Co. in Southampton, MA.

David enjoyed coaching and playing all sports, and he continued pitching for local softball teams well into his 50's. He enjoyed a good game of golf with family and friends and was a member of the Beane/Chapin Memorial Golf League at Southampton Country Club. David was also a member of the American Legion Post 224, VFW Post 3422, and Military Order of Purple Heart Post 875. He enjoyed morning get-togethers at Tandem Bagel, followed by a game of pool with friends at the Council on Aging.

David was a communicant of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Parish in Westfield.

A long-time New York Yankees fan, David was extremely happy when his daughter married Brooklyn native, Anthony Incampo, who was also an avid Yankees fan and former employee of the New YorkYankees organization. David and family enjoyed many trips to Yankee Stadium together.

David will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and all-around family man, a dedicated worker, a very social guy and a caring and loyal friend.

He leaves his loving wife and best friend, Carole (McDonough) Brown; his cherished daughter, Melissa (Brown) Incampo and her husband Anthony Incampo, and his beloved grandson, Anthony David Incampo, of whom he was most proud. He also leaves his sister, Patricia (Carl) Bailey, and his longtime golf partner and brother-in-law, Don (Kathie) McDonough. He is survived by nieces and nephews, Keri and Marty Mayberry and Kris and Laura McDonough, as well as by many cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Diana Morton, his brother-in-law, Ronald Morton and his nephew Robert M. Bailey.

The funeral for David will be on January 23, 2026 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, 127 Holyoke Road, Westfield,MA. Dear Brown Family,
A patriot, a father, and a good friend left us way to early - leaving those,
who knew him, to mourn his passing.
Dave was contemporary of mine - we were the same age, graduated from
the same college, served in the military during the Vietnam conflict, and we
both played varsity basketball for our respective high schools. I feel a great
kinship to this decent man.
I was lucky enough to know Dave through our participation together in the
Tuesday night golf league. Either as a partner or opponent Dave was the
consummate competitor and sportsman on the course.
To those patriots who passed before Dave, stand tall, for a valiant soldier comes your way.
To the Brown family I extend my deepest condolences.
