David Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Care Cremation & Funeral Service - Eastland Drive on Jan. 21, 2026.
David C. Brown entered eternal rest on the morning of January 16, 2026, after a long, courageous battle, surrounded by his wife and family. He was 60 years old.

David was born around 2:00 a.m. on March 20, 1965, in Lexington, Kentucky, to John and Lou (Adams) Brown. He lived nearly all of his life in Jessamine County, Kentucky, and graduated from Jessamine County High School in 1983. He later attended Western Kentucky University.

David was married to the love of his life, Mary (Lewis) Brown, and he always referred to her as "Baby," regardless of surroundings or circumstances. He had a passion for reading and was a true connoisseur of Kentucky bourbon. David excelled in all things related to animal husbandry and took great pride in the accomplishments of animals he trained especially dogs and horses. He was truly a cowboy at heart and had perfected many of the trades of an authentic working cowboy.

On one occasion, David was hired to catch a particularly wild cow and calf in Garrard County. While in pursuit, the cow and calf jumped a fence. The man who hired David later said, "Well, that was pretty uneventful." Without missing a step, David on his horse Dutch, with his dog on the cow's heels jumped the fence as well. By the time the man reached the adjacent field, the cow was tied to a tree, and David was standing over the calf asking, "Where's the trailer?"

To know David was an experience in itself. He was one of a kind. Everything in his life played second fiddle to the fierce loyalty and love he had for his wife, family, and friends. He loved and respected everyone, but his circle was tight, and not many entered or exited. He would praise and cuss all within his circle with equal enthusiasm-but his love never wavered.

David is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Allison Jenkins (Nick) and Sam Brown (Madeline); his mother, Lou Brown; his grandchildren, Beaufort Brown and Bingham Brown; and his sister, Jen Brown (Johnny Evans); his mother in law Patty Lewis, sister in law Lois Lewis and brother in law Phillip Lewis. He was preceded in death by his father, John D. Brown, and his grandparents Jim Brown and Jessie Sanders Horton, and Bill and Agnes Adams.

David also leaves behind many cousins and friends who will never let his memory or spirit fade.

"I'll just dream and keep on bein' the way I am."

- Merle Haggard
