David Eugene Buchanan, 64, unexpectantly passed away on Thursday, the 9th of March, 2023 at Medical City Hospital in Arlington, Texas. He was born on October 18, 1958 in Canton, Ohio to Carl D. and Margaret L. (Jacobs) Buchanan.
David grew up in Canton, Ohio, where he graduated from Timken Vocational High School. He married Donna Esselburn in 1975 in Canton, Ohio. They were happily married for 47 years. In 1983, their family followed Donna’s sister and her spouse, Doreen and Bill Ritchie, to Texas.
“Buck” as he was known by friends and coworkers, was an avid football fan, especially when it came to Ohio State and the Cleveland Browns. He was a craftsman who enjoyed working with his hands, be that in his trade as a machinist and tool maker or as a railroad modeler and enthusiast. He also enjoyed fishing, cooking and spending time with family and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Carl D. and Margaret L. Buchanan, his sister, Karen L. Buchanan, and brother-in-law, Bill Ritchie.
David is survived by his spouse, Donna Buchanan of Arlington, Texas; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Cecelia Buchanan of Kennedale, Texas and daughter Sarah Buchanan of Arlington, Texas; grandchildren Rebecca and her spouse Joey Jimenez of Burleson, Texas, Jonathon Buchanan of Goltry, Oklahoma, and Connor Buchanan of Kennedale, Texas; sister-in-law Doreen Ritchie of Granbury, Texas, sister-in-law and her spouse, Diana and Jim Cook of Apison, Tennessee, brother-in-law David Esselburn of Coshocton, Ohio, and brother-in-law and his spouse, Doug and Rachel Esselburn of Albany, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
A celebration of David’s life will be held at Emerald Hills Funeral Home, 500 Kennedale Sublett Road, Kennedale, TX 76060 at 11 a.m., Friday, March 17, 2023. Calling hours at the funeral home will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 16th, where the family will be greeting friends and relatives. Casual dress is requested.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Boy Scouts of America or St. Jude’s Childrens Hospitals in David’s name.
