David Buck Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cornelison Funeral Home - Pocatello on Jan. 6, 2026.
David Kyle Buck, 75, passed away in his home on January 2, 2026. David was born on January 27, 1950, to Marvin Edward Buck and Juanita Telford Buck in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. David had an older sister, Sharlene, and later 2 younger brothers, John and Michael. The family lived in Sunnyside, Washington until moving to Ririe, Idaho in June 1955. David attended school in Ririe. In high school he participated in seminary, student government, football, basketball, and track. During this time, he worked for his dad at the Ririe Merc during the school year. During the summers, David also did work for local farmers.

After graduating high school, David attended Rick's College in Rexburg, Idaho for one year. He then served a mission to Canada returning home in May 1971. David returned to Rick's College where he met Vernae Woodbury in a PE dance class. They dated that school year and were engaged to be married in August 1972. David and Vernae were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on May 21, 1973.

They lived in Provo while David continued his schooling at Brigham Young University and worked for Coca Cola. When David finished his schooling, he began working for Sears, and the family moved to Spanish Fork, Utah and later Littleton, Colorado in 1987. David took a job working in purchasing for Idaho State University and the family moved to Pocatello, Idaho in 1992. David worked for the rest of his career at Idaho State University. When he retired in May 2019, he was the Director of Purchasing for Idaho State University.

The things that David enjoyed most usually involved his family. He and Vernae had 6 children and 21 grandchildren that he enjoyed spending time with. David also loved to spend time with his brothers and sister. When asked what he enjoyed most, David said the following:

Most of all, I love to do things with my family; vacations, camping, sitting around a campfire talking, roasting a marshmallow to perfection, watching children and grandchildren perform, going out to dinner, having a barbeque on the patio, rounding up cattle with Vernae, going fishing, watching Independence Day fireworks, working in the yard, playing games, going for a walk, swimming, visiting and staying in touch with kids, grandchildren, parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, riding a motorcycle or ATV, finishing a project on the house, going over report cards with my children, making popcorn and watching a movie at home, listening to Vernae sing, listening to my children sing, relaxing in a hot tub, reading a good book, going to the movies, sitting by the fireplace in the winter, remembering where I put something, finishing the taxes, getting a hug from family members, watching people I love enjoy Christmas...

David is preceded in death by his parents Marvin and Juanita Buck, wife, Vernae Buck and grandson, Harrison Kelly. David is survived by his sister, Sharlene Tyler, brothers, John Buck and Michael Buck, children, Rochelle Taylor (Brendon Taylor), David Justin Buck (Sara Buck), Tiffani Buck, Laurel Kelly (Nick Kelly), Wendi Simons (Marcus Simons), and Candice Buck, 20 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
