David A. Buker, known affectionately as Dave to his friends and family, left this world on October 11, 2025, with the same grace and dignity with which he lived his life. Born on September 22, 1936, in Weymouth, Massachusetts, Dave was a beacon of light and strength to all who knew him. His passing in Braintree, Massachusetts, was peaceful and at home, surrounded by the love of his devoted family.
Dave was the beloved husband of the late Carole A. Buker (Welch), with whom he shared a beautiful marriage since 1958 until she passed in 2018. He was the cherished son of the late Arthur and Lolita (Arkell) Buker and a brother who will be deeply missed by Suzanne Buker of New Mexico. As a devoted father, he leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication in his children: Paul Buker and his wife Karla of Weymouth, David A Buker Jr. and his wife Doreen of Carver, Beth Hamilton and her husband Blair of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Heidi Fitzpatrick of Braintree, Stephen Buker and his wife Leah of Plymouth, and Daniel Buker of Rockland. His role as "Papa" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was one he cherished deeply, leaving behind treasured memories with Paul Jr., Kerry, Misty, Samantha, Lindsey, Brian, Matthew, Garrett, Lukas, Nicole, Kelli, Shauna, Stephen, Ashley, Katharine, Abigail, Rachel, and Lauren, along with 21 great-grandchildren.
A proud graduate of Braintree High School in 1955, Dave's commitment to serving others was evident early in his life. He honorably served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Following his military service, Dave joined the Braintree Fire Department in 1966 as a Callman, and his dedication saw him appointed as a Permanent member in February of 1969. Through his hard work and leadership, he ascended through the ranks and was appointed Deputy Chief in 1998, a position he held with pride until his retirement in 2002. His 35-year tenure with the fire department was marked by unwavering dedication to his community and the brotherhood of firefighters.
Dave's passions in life were as robust as his commitment to service. An avid golfer and cribbage player, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was a die-hard Patriots fan, never missing a game, and his love for hosting poolside BBQs was legendary among family and friends. His happiest moments were those spent with his wife and family, especially during holidays and while traveling to destinations such as cruises with friends, Florida, New Hampshire, and other scenic getaways. Dave's love for life was infectious, and his home was often filled with laughter, joy, and the warmth of his presence.
Described by those who knew him as loving, courageous, and friendly, Dave's impact on the world was profound and will be felt long after his passing. He approached life with a big heart and open arms, creating an environment where all felt welcome. His legacy of love, service, and joy will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
David A. Buker's life was one of purpose, love, and laughter. He will be remembered for the strength he provided, the love he shared, and the light he brought into the lives of so many. His story is not one of an ending but a lasting impression that will continue to live on in the hearts and memories of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
