Paul Bennett McCarthy, a resident of the Linden Ponds Community for the past four years and formerly a long-time resident of Hyde Park, died peacefully surrounded by his family. He was 94 years old. Paul served for more than three decades on the Boston Fire Department and retired as a District Deputy Chief in 1996. He was born August 19, 1931, in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Thomas P. and Rose Ellen (McKernan) McCarthy, immigrants from Ireland. He graduated from South Boston High School and enlisted in the US Army. Paul served in post-WWII Japan, where he met the love of his life, Ginny (Virginia L Rogers), who passed away in 2016. Paul was the brother of late James, Thomas, Vincent, Charles, Richard, Francis, and Al McCarthy. He is survived by his children Daniel, and his wife Mindi, of Franklin; Kathleen Giannetti, and her husband Rudy, of Centerville; Paul, and his wife Sheila, of Brimfield; Maureen, and her husband Timothy, of Hull; and Tracy Smith, and her husband Stephen, of Hyde Park. He is also survived by his sister Terry Bouffard of Rockland, as well as 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Paul enjoyed board games, dancing, trips to any casino, golfing with his buddies, as well as a myriad of social activities at Linden Ponds. He was a member of the Readville Knights of Columbus, the Dedham Retired Men's Club, and the Boston Firefighters Liars’ Club. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, March 31, from 4-8 pm, at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton St, Dedham. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Funeral Home Wednesday starting at 9:30 am and proceed with us to St. Anne's Church, 82 W. Milton St, Readville for his Funeral Mass at 10:30. Interment with military honors will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations to Run to Home Base, 4 Jersey St., Boston, MA 02215 (runtohomebase.org) would be appreciated.
