David S Lee

David Stoddart Lee, 92, died peacefully on February 25, 2026 with family by his side. The son of George C. and Kathleen B. Lee, he grew up in Westwood, MA. He began his education at Charles River School before boarding at Milton Academy for six years. After graduating from Harvard University in 1956 with a major in English Literature and a minor in the A.D. Club, he served as a reserve officer in the U.S. Navy before earning his MBA at Harvard Business School in 1960. He briefly worked at Lee, Higginson & Co. before dedicating his investment counseling career to Scudder, Stevens & Clark. After retiring in 1998, he filled his calendar with volunteer roles at various non-profits.

He married Lucinda Hopkins in 1972 before they raised their three children in Brookline, MA. David and Lucinda admired the arts together: they were faithful subscribers to many orchestra and theatre series as well as collectors of timepieces, jewelry, books, paintings and sculpture. They built friendships with many artists and shopkeepers in the process. He and Lucinda enjoyed traveling together to many places, loyally repeating some itineraries in Bermuda, coastal Maine and England. Lucinda lured him from Buzzard’s Bay to Lake Winnipesaukee, where they built a second home in 1988.

The epitome of noblesse oblige, he generously donated to numerous charities. He was also proud of his deep generational ties to the Boston area and loved to tell family stories. He not only read the NYT and WSJ daily but also devoured historical non-fiction and biographies. He channeled this thirst for knowledge into professional and personal success, effortlessly building relationships with his scholarly and social intelligence. However, it was his booming laugh and unwavering devotion to friends and family that made his Rolodex overflow.

He was predeceased by his wife and two of his siblings, George Lee, III and Madeline Gregory. He leaves behind his children, Alexander (Iris Tang) of Newton, Madeline of West Roxbury, Alice (Luke Deming) of Cambridge; step-grandchildren, Harry and Naomi; sister, Kathleen Sherbrooke (Ross), as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, grand- and great-nieces and nephews. A Celebration of David’s life will be held at Dedham’s St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on May 9, 2026 at 11 AM, with a reception to follow. Donations in his memory may be made to Hingham Historical Society, The Cotting School, Mass Audubon or a charity of one’s choice.
