I had the honor and pleasure serving with Major Burns with the 372nd Eng Gp in Balad Iraq (LSA Anaconda). He was a good man and will greatly be missed. To his family, you have my deepest sympathy and my prayers go to you. From my family to yours and the Commo section that served with him in Iraq, we salute you. I apologize for my late comments, I was searching online for those who I served with and came across this. I am sorry for your loss. Sgt Hays

Doris and Clara, I'm sorry for adding my comments so late..I guess I didn't want to believe it was true. Dave was a special person in my life and at the time of our closest friendship he helped me in more ways that I could ever explain but it's safe to say that he was my mentor, my leader, my friend and a man I looked to for inspiration. I'm so glad Dave was a groomsman at my wedding and I wish I would have stayed in closer contact over the years..but we never think about those things until it's too late. My prayers go out to you and may God always be with you as you move forward with Dave watching from above. God bless.

My heart breaks for the entire Burns family at the great loss of Dave. May God continue to help you all through the grief of his passing. My memories of Dave and Doris are from a wonderful restaurant in Naperville Illinois they were always the BEST couple to see walk through the door cause you just knew the laughter would follow. To this day I often drink "Warsteiner" Beer and fondly recall great times with Dave and now the Warsteiner opener that he gave me will be even more cherished. Kudos to you Dave for a life well lived another honorable man that will be truly missed I only hope that you are enjoying a Warsteiner and continuing to bring smiles to all. Doris and Clara stay strong and live as he would want you to live - happy and blessed.

My condolences to the Burns Family,
No word can express my sorrow upon receiving this news this morning.
I met Dave while playing together in a railway golf tournament.
I became a customer and I considered him as a friend.
It was an honor for me to meet this honorable gentleman.
He will be missed.

What a lovely neighbor you are. We will miss David's smile and wave as we pass your house. Doris, how thoughtful of you to include the letter you did in your thank you note. You have taken the time to think of others during your grief. I have been trying to encourage my husband to get checked out for his poor breathing but to no avail. Maybe your note will help.

Doris and Family, received word via Al Smith that Dave had passed, what a great guy, darn good Commo Officer and organizer for the 863rd. I will never forget the ROA's and golf outings Dave planned or the AT's and his hard work to make them a success. Dave was truly a leader and I know he still is.

To the family of Dave Burns,
I do not know any of you,but I will always remember your wonderful loved one, Dave Burns. Well over a decade ago, I made some very timid overtures to Union Pacific Railroad, as a minority supplier. It was difficult to approach UP, then I met Dave and a few other UP buyers who were stellar professionals, and helped me pave the way to a long term relationship with the Railroad. Dave, made it clear color was no obstacle, and he only wanted to be fair, and helpful to all people. He was truly a wonderful and encouraging person. People like Dave made it possible for many small minority owned businesses to go forward with UP. I am so sorry for your personal loss, but just know many of us you don't know will always cherish the memory of this wonderfully humane, fair and decent man. I will pray that God will deeply bless your family through this time of sadness.
Dave will be missed by those of us who must constantly sift through this world to find a few really decent people who will take the risk of providing challenged people with fair and equal opportunity. Thank God for Dave.

Doris and Family,
We just returned from a long weekend to hear of your loss. May the Lord Bless you and keep you in your time of sorrow. My two favorite memories of Dave is him chomping on a multitude of cigars when I first met you both on Annual Training in Minnesota many years ago. Then second, when Dave tapped me on the shoulder in a sea of 1.5 million people last September 12th in Washington DC. What a joy it was to see you both by chance that day.

Doris and Family,
I am very sorry for your loss which we all are shocked and saddened by. I had the utmost respect for Dave as a model citizen, businessman, family man and friend. Dave truly embraced the value of friendship which is maintaining and nurturing those friendships. I knew Dave from his career at Union Pacific and had many of the same jobs he held. He was always the one to interject fun into the workplace and when he moved on that was missed. As a supplier to UP the association with UP friends continued as Dave knew what was important in life, family and friends first. I can only wish you and your family comfort and peace during this difficult time and say what a privilege it was to have known Dave.

Doris;
Still can't believe it. Dave was such a great guy, and always giving above and beyond. I remember living in Lisle together and going out and Dave insisting on picking up the check, no matter how much you protested. He was a one of a kind, and taken far too soon.

I want to pass on my sympathy and prayers to you and your family. I was a neighbor of Dave and the Burn's clan for many years on Sherman and we had alot fun running the neighborhood. Howard and I were good friends, but I always looked up to Dave since he was 11 years older and I remember him as a really nice person. The one memory that stands out are the number of times we would play touch football in the street and how Dave would play with all of the younger kids and be the all time QB.
Please pass on my thoughts and prayers to his entire family and God Bless.

I am so very sorry to hear about Dave. He was such a wonderful person. He made sure he keep the communication going between all us UP'ers. He will be missed. I do pray that God will extend his comfort and peace to you and your family now and for the days to come. God Bless.

Doris and Clara,
Our hearts go out to you and your family in such a difficult time. I didn't know Dave well but it didn't take long to know that he was a true gentelman and patriot. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
