David Francis Burris was born on July 6, 1947, in Cody, Wyoming, and passed away peacefully at home in Oklahoma City on April 2, 2025. He was 77 years old.
Dave was the third of four children, born to Geneva and Charles Burris. He spent his early years in Wyoming and often recalled stories of attending a one-room schoolhouse-memories that reflected his love of learning and appreciation for life's simple beginnings. He graduated from Hillcrest High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, and went on to earn a degree in Mathematics from the University of Utah. He later pursued further studies in Business and Accounting at California State University, Los Angeles.
Dave's life journey took him to many places: Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, Houston, Punta Gorda, Coral Springs, and Beverly Hills, Florida. In 2021, he and his wife, Ginger, moved to Oklahoma City to be near family.
He met Ginger on a blind date in Houston in 1985, and the two were married on February 27, 1987. Together they built a blended and beautiful family of five sons: Chris Burris, Chuck Burris, Robert Gee, Chris Gee, and Peter Burris.
A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Dave found deep joy in spending time with his family. He especially cherished working on projects with his sons-building, fixing, brainstorming, and creating-always turning these moments into opportunities for connection, teaching, and fun.
Dave was a man of quiet strength, defined by his kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith. His belief in God gave him peace and purpose, and it shaped the way he showed up for others: with patience, compassion, and a steady presence. He never sought the spotlight, but he illuminated the lives around him.
He gave freely of his time-coaching little league, mentoring students, helping neighbors, and always being someone others could count on. He had a special gift for seeing the good in people and encouraging it in return.
Dave was also a lifelong lover of sports. He especially enjoyed watching basketball, football, and baseball, cheering enthusiastically for the University of Utah and the Houston Astros. Sports were more than entertainment to him-they were a way to bond with others, celebrate teamwork, and stay connected to the things he loved.
In his professional life, Dave was an accountant, real estate executive, high school teacher, and artist. He and Ginger shared a creative spirit, often participating in craft shows where Dave showcased his intricate fractal wood-burning art, accented with turquoise. His creativity and attention to detail reflected both his precision and his passion.
His sense of humor was subtle and sometimes delightfully puzzling-but always sincere. If you got the joke, he'd make sure to laugh with you. If you didn't, he was just as happy to leave you smiling and wondering.
"If you can't be funny, be confusing."
- David Burris
