David Byron Obituary

Byron, David
ALTAMONT - David E. Byron, 73, of Altamont, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and family man, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026. at St. Peter's Hospital, surrounded by the love of those he quietly spent a lifetime caring for. He was born in Albany and is the son of the late Robert and Gay Byron.
He was a man who showed his love through action rather than words. Quiet, hardworking, calm, and endlessly patient, he was a listener, a steady presence, and a helper in every sense of the word. If something needed fixing, building, carrying, or solving, he was there, without being asked and without seeking recognition.
He proudly served as an aircraft mechanic, inspector and safety officer with the New York Army National Guard, work he took seriously and performed with dedication and integrity for 39 years. But of all his roles in life, the one that mattered most to him was taking care of his family and his home. Providing for those he loved, keeping them safe, and making sure they were cared for was always his highest priority.
Family came first, always. His love was constant, dependable, and unwavering. It was shown in the countless quiet sacrifices he made, the support he offered without hesitation, and the steady way he showed up for everyone who needed him.
He leaves behind a legacy of service, humility, kindness, and devotion, one that will live on through the family he loved so deeply and the lives he touched through his actions.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rosemary Byron, who cared for him with unwavering devotion during his illness; his son. Christopher Byron (Jackie Byron); his daughter, Kara Lake (Wayne Lake); and his beloved grandchildren, Jacob and Kayleigh Lake, and Silas and Sullivan Byron. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins; his uncle, Wendell Best and his aunts, Pat, Lynne and Carol Best; his in-laws, Dorothy and Larry Weaver, Kathy and Jim Tartaglia, Joe Reid, and Jim Reid. A heartfelt thank you is extended to the nurses and caregivers of the Four Pavillion at St. Peter's Hospital, for the care and support given to David and his family during his illness and stay, as well as David's sister and brother-in law, Dorothy and Larry Weaver, who were a constant source of love, support, and strength for Rosemary and David during his illness.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Memory Gardens, where he will be laid to rest.

To Rose & family,
I was saddened to hear of Dave´s passing. My deepest condolences to you all. Dave was such an intricate part of my life in our younger years. Not only being roommates but he had a big part in Rick and I joining the guard. So many good memories of our years together, everything from our Monday night meetings to the bowling league in Clifton Park. But, the biggest memory is of the times we tried riding our motorcycles. He certainly had a rough go trying to handle that Harley Cafe racer.
He was like a big brother to me and it was a privilege to be your best man at your wedding.
Rest in peace my friend and I never say goodbye I just say till we meet again.

To Rose and family, my deepest sympathy. Dave was a great friend when I was growing up. Most of my teenage years were spent with Dave being my big brother. He will be missed.
