Funeral services for David Thomas Calvert, 95, will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the North Ridge Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant Texas. The family will receive visitors prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Gladewater Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Jim Parker, Jerry McRae, and Michael Orr will officiate the service.
David was born in Mt. Pleasant, Texas on November 7, 1928 to David Crockett Calvert and Agnes Iona (Stephenson) Calvert and passed away on May 3, 2024.
David graduated from East Texas State (Texas A&M Commerce) where he met the love of his life, Mary Jean Dyer. He and Mary Jean were married on June 24, 1950. After living in Mt. Pleasant during their first year of marriage, they moved to Dallas where David began a long and successful career in sales, while Mary Jean worked at Travelers Insurance for the next 47 years. During their years of living in Dallas, they developed many lifelong friendships and were members of the Edgefield Church of Christ in Dallas. While they never had children of their own, they enjoyed entertaining friends and family in their home in Dallas, traveling, birdwatching, and spending time and holidays with their siblings and numerous nieces and nephews. After Mary Jean's death in 2015, David moved back to Mt. Pleasant and enjoyed living the country life on the farm with his beloved niece, Anita McRae and her husband, Jerry.
David is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Mary Jean; two sisters: Edna Calvert and Mattie Lou Calvert Crooks (­­­­­Clifton Thomas Crooks); father- and mother-in law, Elmer and Freda Dyer; niece, Mary Ann Crooks Severson; nephews: Charles Crooks (Esther), Larry Crooks, Gary Thomas (Dottie), Lyle Dyer; sisters-in-law: Frances Dyer Thomas (B.J), ­­­­­­Wanda Dyer Marlin; broth­­­­­­­ers-in-law: Robert Dyer, Billy Dyer, and Edgar Dyer.
David is survived by his nieces: Anita Crooks McRae (Jerry), Marilyn Thomas Greenhouse (Jack), Sherri Thomas Pool (Mike), Jean Thomas Thorne, Lou Ann Dyer Heers (Ted), Dawn Dyer Rhodes (Duane); nephews: Danny Pat Crooks (Darline), David Crooks (Karen), Lenzy Dyer (Stacey), Daryl Dyer (Shannon), Robert Dyer; brothers-in-law: Gerald Dyer (Kathy), Tim Marlin; sister-in-law: Carol Dyer, and numerous great-nieces and -nephews.
Pallbearers will be David Crooks, Lenzy Dyer, Daryl Dyer, Roger Jackson, Jody Sparks, and Tim Marlin.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Danny Pat Crooks, Mike Pool, Cherokee Brewer, Gerald Dyer, Don Little, Max Mays, and Roy Wilmon.
The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Park Village Assisted Living, and especially Dale Entz for her special care and friendship, as well as Chambers Hospice for their love and care of David.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in David's memory be made to the North Ridge Church of Christ Honduras Missions (via North Ridge Church of Christ, 212 E. Burton Road, Mt. Pleasant, TX 75455) or to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org
