David Allen Canning

Boulder City, Nevada - David Allen Canning passed away peacefully Thursday, June 26, 2025 at his home in Boulder City, Nevada. He was born September 10, 1956 in Cleveland, Ohio to Nancy Jane Canning (Greenfield) and Robert Canning.

Before moving to Nevada, he lived in Kentucky, Ohio, Texas, Idaho and California. When he was in his early teens in Ohio, he and his dad built many things together, including an airplane. Dave was an extremely high achiever and finished high school at the age of 16. When he was 17, he joined the Air Force, where his basic knowledge of aeronautics technology and communications set forth. After his military service, he attended two years at a university as an art major.

Dave’s career life began in television repair, which lead to establishing a very profitable broadcast rental equipment business and partnership in the Los Angeles, CA area. He was highly respected and well known throughout the Live TV and Hollywood movie industry for his knowledge and expertise in technical communications and engineering. Dave is listed in the credits of multiple concerts and movies and fulfilled rolls such as Video Communications Technician, 3D Engineer, Video Controller, System Engineer and Digital Imaging Technician. Some of the concerts and movies he worked on are: Live Aid, Farm Aid, USA for Africa, We Are The World, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Collateral, 47 Ronin, Alice in Wonderland, 80th Annual Academy Awards show, and 1984 Olympics.

He was a Federal Aviation Administration licensed Sport Pilot, Remote Pilot and accomplished Drone Pilot.

After retiring from the entertainment industry, he worked independently, providing a wide variety of services. He was a true “Jack-of-All Trades” and “Master of Everything”. He took pride in his work and was labeled by those who knew him as a “perfectionist”. Dave was selfless and always willing to help others. He enjoyed tackling challenging projects. He was technically savvy, as he built his own computer and was a master at 3D printing. He was outspoken and had a great sense of humor.

Dave was also an accomplished guitarist and enjoyed playing as a creative outlet.

Dave is survived by three daughters Skylar and Piper (Canning) Carothers in Post Falls, Idaho; Amanda Canning in San Marco, California; step-daughter Nicole Shah in Encino, California; sister Mary Vaughn and a niece and nephew in Frankfort, Kentucky; and his fiance' Marianne Boravich, with whom he had an endearing and committed relationship.

Per Dave’s wishes, cremation will take place. A celebration of life will be held in Burbank, California in September (firm date is still TBD).
