David Edward Carroll September 18, 1937 – April 20, 2025
David Edward Carroll, born on September 18, 1937, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2025. The last three years of dad's life were marked by the challenges of dementia, yet he faced these difficulties with a smile. Despite his limitations, he was happy, taking life one day at a time, and cherishing each visit from his family. Every greeting was filled with a big grin, a hug, and a kiss, and he was deeply grateful for every moment spent together.
David was the only child of the late Virginia and Edward Carroll. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Louise (Potter) Schlesman Carroll, whom he considered the true love of his life. He was also preceded in death by his son, David Carroll. He is survived by his children, Susan Carroll-Ryan and her husband Bill, Jim Carroll and his wife Maureen, and Kristin Carroll and her husband Darren Damone. He also leaves behind three stepchildren, Sandra Anthony and her husband Clint, Joe Schlesman and his wife Meghan, and Lori Schlesman. David was a cherished grandfather to Danielle, Patrick, Shannon, Ben, Corey, and Noelle, and a proud great-grandfather to Riley, Hudson, and his newest arrival, Steven.
Dad attended Norwood Academy in Philadelphia before continuing his education at St. Joseph's Preparatory School, class of 1955. He was a proud Hawk and loved attending high school football games and sharing memories of teachers, school dances, camaraderie with his classmates and the rigors of Latin. He later earned a bachelor's degree from Villanova University. His love for Villanova, and especially Villanova basketball, knew no bounds. He adored coaches Rollie Massimino and Jay Wright and was thrilled to witness the Wildcats' three NCAA basketball championships.
Dad proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. He carried his pride in serving his country throughout his life. After his service, he became a sales representative for International Paper, where he became an expert in consumer packaging products. As children, we often found ourselves learning about the intricacies of packaging-colors, folds, machinery, paper rolls-subjects that might not have seemed exciting to others, but his enthusiasm for his profession made it seem fascinating. His dedication allowed him to provide a wonderful life for his family.
Dad had a deep love for the beach. We have countless cherished memories in Ocean City and Avalon, New Jersey. He enjoyed walking on the beach with Louise, fishing with his children (despite his notorious seasickness), watching the sunset, and occasionally enjoying a cold beer or a glass of white wine.
Dad was an avid traveler, exploring both the United States and the world. His travels were filled with unforgettable experiences, though he did joke about his one regret-the free timeshare trip. Nonetheless, he reveled in the adventures he took and was always grateful for the opportunity to see new places and create lasting memories.
In addition to his love for travel, Dad had a passion for theater. While Broadway shows were a favorite, he also found joy in local performances, such as those at North Penn High School. He loved the music of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Many family memories took place with the crooning of the Rat Pack in the background. Dad will be deeply missed by all who know him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and his spirit will forever remain with us.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Brittany Pointe for their kindness and exceptional care. We could not have enjoyed our last moments with dad without your dedication.
Private services will be held to celebrate his life. The family kindly requests that, instead of flowers, donations be made to
