Stephen Jones Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mount Laurel Home for Funerals & Cremation Services, Inc. on Jan. 26, 2025.
Stephen L. Jones, age 68, of Mt. Laurel, NJ passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 25, 2025 after a hard-fought battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Stephen, known to all but his mother as "Steve," was born on September 25, 1956 in Houston, TX. At the age of two, he and his mother, Dolores Jones (nee Bilics) moved to Cherry Hill, NJ to be closer to her family. He attended St. Joseph's Preparatory School in Philadelphia and went on to graduate from Boston College. After attending law school at the New England School of Law, he settled in Marshfield Hills, MA where he raised his daughters, Ashley and Stephanie.
Steve was a gifted trial attorney and had his own law practice for over 20 years in Massachusetts. He was a member of the National College for DUI Defense where he served as Dean. He co-authored the DUI treatise for Massachusetts, which is used in law schools, courtrooms and by attorneys throughout the state.
Approximately fifteen years ago, Steve met his beloved wife Michele (nee Slivinski). They were married in Nantucket nine years ago and split their time between Mount Laurel, NJ, Boston, MA and Tucson, AZ. More recently, they had been in Mount Laurel, NJ full time.
Steve loved to travel and had a gift for making friends everywhere he went. He also enjoyed cooking, riding his bike and golfing. He was often found with a glass of red wine in hand listening to his favorite music. Above all else, he loved spending time with his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Michele Jones; his mother, Dolores Jones; his daughters, Ashley Killeen (Ryan), and Stephanie McDonald (Evan); his stepdaughters, Kristin Tuch (Ian) and Kaitlin Gibbons (Jack); his grandchildren, Caroline, Jack, Ava and Mia; and his step-grandchildren, Ian, Lainey, Millie, Jackson and Klaire.
Relatives and friends are welcome to his visitation on Wednesday, January 29th from 5:00-7:00 PM, and again Thursday, January 30th from 10:00-11:00 AM. His memorial service will immediately follow on Thursday at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Stephen's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (https://www.alz.org/?form=FUNDHYMMBXU) or to Samaritan Hospice (https://www.samaritannj.org/giving/donate-now/).

So sorry and saddened by your terrible loss Michele and family. Dolores told me so many stories about Stephen that I came to understand him as an outstanding person, full of compassion for others, especially for the people who needed his help the most. He will be missed by all who knew him.

I first met Steve at Hingham District Court. I was a Scituate police officer and many of my cases ended up with Steve being the defense attorney. In between courtroom battles, we became friends. He went to Saint Joe´s. I went to Cardinal Dougherty- rival high schools in Philadelphia, we were two years apart. We planned to meet at the Springfield in SIC but it never worked out. I miss you Steve! Rest in peace.
You are a good man!

I was a Scituate Mass Police Officer and worked many years at Hingham District Court with Steve. There was no more honest professional and caring man than Steve. After I retired I still talked to Steve a few times and always enjoyed our conversations. Honor to have know and worked with him. Rest in peace my friend, a life well lived!
