David Carter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Allison and Rose Funeral Home on Jan. 13, 2026.
David Michael Carter, age 50, passed away on January 4, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family.
David was born on April 9, 1975, in Sarasota, Florida. From the moment he entered a room, you knew he was there. He had a bold, bright presence-marked by a booming voice, an infectious, goofy laugh, and a smile that could instantly put people at ease. Though tall and strong in stature, David was gentle at heart: patient, caring, and endlessly kind. Many described him as a giant teddy bear, someone whose hugs made you feel safe, loved, and truly seen.
David was a free spirit who loved life and believed in fully experiencing it. In his younger years, he chased adventure with fearless enthusiasm-repelling down mountainsides, jumping out of planes, and seeking adrenaline wherever he could find it (often giving his mother plenty of reasons to worry and pray a little harder). As life slowed, he found peace in the outdoors, especially hiking in the woods and spending time in nature. He also loved cooking, video games, anime, and had a fondness for collecting Spawn figures and for the character Jack Skellington-small joys that reflected his playful and curious soul.
David had a rare way of connecting with people. He took a genuine personal interest in everyone he met, listened without judgment, and carried a calm acceptance when faced with life's challenges. He was strong and resilient, but his greatest strength was his enormous, loving heart.
Straight out of high school in 1993, David began what would become a 32-year career with Maile, Tekulve & Gray, starting with Maile Builders and eventually serving as a Project Manager. He was deeply proud of his work and of working with his hands. Known as dependable, loyal, and always willing to help, David was the kind of person who said "yes" when others hesitated and took pride in doing things the right way. His commitment, kindness, and steady presence left a lasting mark on those he worked alongside.
Above all else, David loved his family. In April of 1999, he married the love of his life, Franny Carter, and together they shared more than 26 years of marriage filled with laughter, friendship, adventure, and unwavering love. Franny was his best friend and lifelong travel companion-the center of his world. David was endlessly proud of his son, Ethan Carter, whom he loved with his whole heart and spoke about with unmistakable pride.
David is survived by his wife, Franny Carter; his beloved son, Ethan Carter; his mother, Judy Carter; his brother, Sean Carter; his sister, Joy Carter; as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Carter.
David will be remembered for his strength, his laughter, his listening ear, and the way he made people feel genuinely cared for. When he wrapped you in those big arms of his, you felt his love-and likely heard that unforgettable laugh. His presence brought warmth, comfort, and joy, and his absence leaves a space that cannot be filled. He will be deeply missed and forever loved."

Bro, I know you´re up there with pops just living it up with our loved ones who have already moved on. Just know that us here on earth wish you didn´t have to go already. It´s still not real. I expect you to just come swing open my door being all loud like you always do. Our time together was too short, but brother you lived it to the fullest. I can´t say goodbye yet, but I will say I love you and will see you again.

Dave...where to start. From the football fields of Holmes to the sawdust(man glitter) filled homes we worked on together to the late nights together with others just having some fun, you´re going to be missed! I´ll always wonder why God takes good people to soon, but I know he has a plan. Rest easy my friend! Gone but never forgotten.

David was one of the hardest working men in our company. He always did his best and grew into a professional carpenter and project manager after graduation from Holmes. He overcame a lot of obstacles in his life and I always admired him for that. We will miss him but he is where we all want to be. God bless you, David.
