David Cathcart Obituary

David Joseph Cathcart
March 30, 1949 - January 4, 2022
Charlotte, North Carolina - David Joseph Cathcart died Tuesday, January 4, 2022.
Dave was born March 30, 1949, son of Virginia T. Cathcart of Palm Harbor, Florida and the late, Ellis L. Cathcart.
In addition to his father, Dave was preceded in death by his nephew, Jayson K. Walker. He is survived by his mother; brother, Stephen L. Cathcart and his wife Carol of Delran, NJ; sister, Tracy C. Walker of Palm Harbor, FL; children, Taylor Cathcart Pollecutt and her husband Brendan of Los Angeles, CA, William T. Cathcart and his wife Allison of Charlotte; and Reid E. Cathcart and his wife Becky of Charlotte; four grandsons, Everett, Thomas, Liam and Logan, and a granddaughter, Lydia-Ann, all of Charlotte; and his former wife, Elizabeth (Libby) Cathcart of Charlotte.
Born in Atlanta, Dave grew up in Mt. Holly, NJ and attended public schools there, graduating from Rancocas Valley Regional High School in 1967. He attended Erskine College, Due West, SC, where he earned his B.S. in Business Administration and later served as a Trustee of Erskine College and Seminary and as Chairman of the Investment Committee.
During college, Dave joined the United States Army Reserve and served six years, the last as a member of the 108th Training Division, headquartered in Charlotte. He also served as an intern at North Carolina National Bank (now Bank of America), which began a relationship with that firm lasting over 50 years. Dave joined NCNB full time upon graduation from Erskine College in 1971 and served in a number of positions, including Division Executive for Personal Trust, Employee Benefits and Corporate Trust, and for Trust Sales and Marketing. In 1995 he opened the Charlotte Office of North Carolina Trust Company which later became U.S. Trust Company. During the next 20+ years, as NC Trust merged with U.S. Trust Company of New York, and US Trust was merged into Bank of America, Dave and his partners joined Merrill Lynch (which later was also merged into Bank of America) and formed The Bledsoe Cathcart Group, now BCG Private Wealth Management. He retired in 2018 and then served as Chairman of the Advisory Council. Those years of partnership and friendship with Suzanne Bledsoe, Lisa Premo, Mike Rogers, Van Smith and Bob Ziegler were some of the most joyful and fulfilling of his working life.
Dave spent many years as board member of the Charlotte Community Health Clinic and was dedicated to its mission of providing access to quality health care to the underserved. He was a member of the Top of the Week Rotary Club and served on various non-profit and fundraising boards throughout his life. He was a long-time member of Carmel Country Club and served on various committees, as a Board member, Treasurer and as President. His life at Carmel included many rounds of golf, trips to multiple golf destinations, drinks in the bar, and laughs with his many friends, especially in "The Herd."
Dave was blessed to have close ties with his family and enjoyed many family outings, dinners, trips and visits over the years. He travelled extensively, including visits to see his daughter and son-in-law in California and always enjoyed family gatherings in Charlotte and other vacation locations. He would hope to be remembered as a good friend with a kind word and support for others.
A public memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, January 20th at Myers Park United Methodist Church, where Dave was a member for many years. Please feel free to join the family virtually at https://boxcast.tv/channel/avywlradrkwnpw81mpef
The family will also receive friends at a reception at Carmel Country Club following the service. Memorials may be made to Myers Park United Methodist Church, the Charlotte Community Health Clinic Foundation or the organization of your choice.
Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC; 28204 (704) 641-7606. Online condolences can be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

My Grandfather...

Dave and I go back in excess of 40+ years. I am a Realtor as well as an old friend. Dave and I had many RE transactions together over 40 years. I had not seen Dave for awhile and happened to run in to him in either November or December 2021. We talked for a while and he looked fine. I just found out about his passing and I am still in shock. Never knew he was ill.

My sincerest sympathies to Dave's children and extended families. "May Dave's Memory Be Eternal" and I pray God will grant his children, grandchildren, siblings and other extended family a long, healthy and prosperous life in God.

Dave and I worked together at NCNB/BOA. He was a caring individual and a friend. One could go months with out contact and when you did, you could pick right up in conversation as if time had not past. He will be missed.

David was a friend throughout high school. Always ready to help with class functions and a spirit leader at many events. It was so very nice to see and chat with him during a recent reunion in Mt Holly. He still had that same great smile, warm handshake and pleasant demeanor that made you want to be around him

When we told our son that Dave had passed, he said he will always remember him as Kind, Friendly and always smiling. So true, Dave was one of a kind and we will miss him and never forget him.
Our heartfelt sympathy to his children, Libby and his sweet Mom.
With Love,
Don and Brent Fowler
