Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shadel's Colonial Chapel - Lebanon on Jan. 28, 2026.
DAVID LEE CLAXTON was born on December 16, 1978, in
St. Charles, Missouri, to Dorothy Schechterly and Clifford Claxton, who were married at the time of his birth. He departed this life on Friday, January 23, 2026, at his home in
Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of 47.
On October 14, 2006, David was united in marriage to Rebecca Nicole Brown. He was the proud father of two sons: Jonathon Detrick Claxton, born September 11, 2001, to David and Jill Cormier, and Dominic Thomas Claxton, born August 11, 2012, to David and his wife Rebecca.
David served in the Air Force National Guard, achieving the rank of Airman Staff Sergeant. He attended the Air Force Fire Academy and continued his education, earning a bachelor's degree in Fire Science. During this time, he also volunteered with the Lake Saint Louis Fire Department.
Above all, David's greatest priority was his family. He loved coaching Jonathon's youth hockey teams and spending time fishing with his boys. A devoted stay-at-home father, David found joy in creating family traditions-whether it was forming a fantasy football league, hosting Memorial Day gatherings, or welcoming friends and family to his home for football Sundays.
David had many passions, including playing hockey and making music. He was a deep thinker, quick-witted, and known for giving thoughtful, honest advice to those who sought it. He became an accomplished musician and deeply loved music. In November 2025, he released his first album, Songs for the Unsettled Soul, with his band, Twisted Schwartz and the Oddballs.
David and his family made their home in St. Peters, Missouri, until 2023, when they moved to
Lebanon, Missouri.
David is survived by his loving wife of nineteen years, Rebecca Nicole (Brown) Claxton; his son, Dominic Thomas Claxton of the home; his son, Jonathon Detrick Claxton of Fostoria, Ohio; his father, Clifford Lee Claxton and wife Irene (Flemon) of Lebanon; his mother, Dorothy (Schwartze) Schechterly and husband Gary of Lake Saint Louis, Missouri; and his sister, Melanie Renee (Claxton) Jelinek and husband Eric of Nixa, Missouri.
Those preceding him in death include his paternal grandparents, Clifford and Letha Claxton; maternal grandparents, Cletus and Florentine Schwartze; and his dear Aunt Freeda Myers.
David was a loving husband, son, father, brother, uncle, and loyal friend to many. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that his family and friends will forever cherish the memories he created during his forty-seven years.
Memorials have been suggested to David's family for his son's education fund.
