David Marshall Cook

 

David Marshall Cook returned to his earthly and heavenly parents on Sunday morning, August 6, 2023, at age 77 in Bountiful, Utah.

 

David was born on May 27, 1946, in Salt Lake City and is the second child of Marion Sherman Cook and Peggy Madge Marshall, only 15 months younger than his brother John Marion Cook. David’s first few months in life served as possibly a warning because he never learned to walk; at nine months old, he simply got up and ran.

 

Growing up, David enjoyed spending time with his Cook cousins, riding horses, playing games, and spending time outdoors. He also spent a lot of time with his older brother, John, hiking, fishing, camping, and being outdoors. He talked often about changing diapers and helping to take care of his youngest siblings, taking them hunting and including them in many of his activities. David grew up in American Fork, Fruit Heights, and Kaysville, and as he got older, he also became an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting trips with his dad, cousins, his Grandpa Cook, and with friends. David spent most of his growing up time in Kaysville. He and John picked cherries for several summers in the Fruit Heights orchards, earning their spending money.

 

David graduated from Davis High School in Kaysville and attended Weber State College, earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting. It only took him a couple years to realize accounting and office jobs were not for him; he was an outdoors guy. David served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in western Canada. He traveled throughout life, including as part of the National Guard with two people he considered to be his closest friends. The three stayed together throughout their training in both Louisiana and Oklahoma. While David dated often and had several girlfriends, he never married. He enjoyed snowmobiling and water skiing and often took girls on dates outdoors doing those activities.

 

One of the things David was most passionate about was raising horses, and he had several. He spent a lot of time riding and training. David named one of his horses Satan, which his mother did not appreciate. He also named one of his horses Peggy, after his mother. He enjoyed taking his nieces and nephews to see his horses.

 

David spent most of his working life in construction, building bridges throughout Utah. He also was able to earn money hunting coyotes and bob cats with one of his close friends, allowing him to enjoy a job outdoors and using the skills he learned in his youth hunting with family. Because of these jobs, David got to know the backcountry of Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Nevada, Idaho, and other states.

 

David is preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, Mina Cook, and niece, Sarah Cook. He is survived by his siblings, John, William (Valerie), Michael (Marsha), Paula (Mike), and Paul (Sue), along with many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Life Care in Bountiful and Inspiration Hospice for their compassionate and loving care.

 

Funeral Services will be held Saturday August 12, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist Kaysville Mortuary, (400 N Main Street).  Friends may visit with family from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

 

Graveside services with military honors will be held at the Kaysville Cemetery (500 E. Crestwood Road) at 12:00 p.m.
