The world lost a wonderful, loving father and husband, David Howard Cook, on July 17 as he passed away peacefully with his wife and children by his side. His years of devotion to his family, friends and work will continue on through those who were fortunate to know him during his 78 years of life.
David's journey started when he was brought into this world by Eva Matilda Cook and Dahron Howard Cook on May 15, 1947. He grew up in Independence, Missouri, spending his childhood and early adulthood there until he left to attend Graceland College in Iowa, which is where he would meet his future wife, Beverly Burwell, whom he married on June 19, 1971. David graduated from Graceland in 1969. He moved back to Independence to attend UMKC Law School and graduated in 1972.
In 1977, David and Beverly moved to Lee's Summit, Missouri to start a family and careers. They welcomed their son Brandon Cook on April 6, 1977 and then daughter Jennifer Cook on September 25, 1978. David was a talented attorney. He was a partner with Stewart, Cook, Constance, Minton Law Firm in Independence for over 35 years. David was a member of the Rotary Club, served on the Board of Directors of Comprehensive Mental Health for 25 years and was a Life Member of Bingham Waggoner Society.
While David was opinionated and always enjoyed a friendly debate, he was also a kind person who never had a bad thing to say about anyone. He had a keen sense of humor; David was good at finding a way to get a joke or pun in any conversation. David will be missed by all he touched in this world. He is survived by his wife Beverly Cook; son Brandon Cook and daughter-in-law Amanda Cook; daughter Jennifer Netherton and son- in-law Virgil Netherton; and grandchildren Harriett Netherton and Henry Netherton.

Sorry, we've lost such a great, fun * pun-loving guy!" Here are a couple of puns just for him now.
1) Dad always thought the last thing he needed was a burial plot. He was right. 2)What do you call a coffee shop that used to be a funeral director's? A decoffinated cafe! 3)Today I passed my exams to be a funeral director! Shame it´s a dying trade.
Side note --- My father was a funeral director !! 4)The mortician still takes classes, wanting to further her dead-ucation. (and, another sidebar --- my mother was the first licensed embalmer in the state of Kansas !!

From Dave, your Argyle restaurant buddy! Beverly ....our supoortive thoughts ar with you !

It was a pleasure having Dave as my boss for over 33 years. We made a good team, and retired together. He was definitely `punny!´
