David Gregory "Greg" Crumpton was born on December 16, 1958, in Memphis, Tennessee, and was welcomed home to the Fair & Friendly City of New Albany, Mississippi, by a lively and loving family. He was raised in the home of his paternal grandparents, the Rev. and Mrs. E. L. Crumpton, and traveled frequently to various U.S. Air Force installations for stays with his father and step-mother, Billy F. Crumpton and Peggy Manning Crumpton. Greg was educated in New Albany Public Schools, and spent many years of his youth enjoying the company of one younger sister and numerous energetic cousins. He loved caring for animals, and was a talented artist. His pencil drawings were exquisite; he took his gift of colorful air brush painting to numerous destinations including the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Florida and Texas.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, Billy F. Crumpton; his boisterous and hilarious uncle, Robert "Bob" Crumpton; his loving grandparents, the Rev. and Mrs. E.L. Crumpton; and, his favored great-grandparents known affectionately as Ma and Pa Crumpton. He is survived by his step-mother, Peggy Manning Crumpton Roberts; step-father, Samuel Howard "Whitey" Roberts; one sister, Melanie Crumpton Milton (Tim); one Aunt, Gayle Jarvis (Larry); three biological children: Jerry Wayne Baggett; Jessica Crumpton Dees (Tucker); and, Kizer Franklin Churchill; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Greg passed away on August 15, 2023, at 64 years of age, in Jackson, Mississippi, as a result of a vehicle accident while riding his bike. The family wishes to thank first responders with the Mississippi Highway Patrol and the medical team at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for their efforts in returning him home to his family. United Funeral Service of New Albany has charge. Visitation begins at 1:00 in the afternoon on Saturday, August 19, followed by the service at 2:00 at United Funeral Service. Final resting will be near Greg's beloved paternal great-grandparents in the Wallerville Baptist Church Cemetery, Wallerville, Mississippi.
