David Joseph (Redeye) Cummings left this world for the forests in the sky on April 13, 2025 with his loving wife and caregiver by his side. He was born on March 30, 1955 to the late John (Jack) Cummings and Katherine (Kay) (Hoffman) Cummings. He graduated from St. Joseph Grade School in 1969 and Academy High School in 1973. He loved the outdoors, spending much of his life camping in Kelletville, Westline and finally at their camp in Tidioute. He kept a meticulous garden, which benefited all of our friends and family, especially his salsa and pickled green beans. He also enjoyed working in his workshop creating many wooden mementos for family and friends. Dave was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and really hoped this was going to be our year.

After high school, He worked at Firch Bakery where he made many life long friends. He then worked with an electrician Bill Straight and also a master plumber Denny Renz. He then braved it to go on his own and become a self-employed plumber for Dave Cummings Plumbing.

He was larger than life. Everyone knew when Redeye was in the room. He always had a story to tell and many a joke to share. He had such a distinctive voice and laugh until complications from cancer and an infection took that ability away in 2021. He survived cancer twice. Once in 2007 and again on 2017. But a bacterial infection in 2021 ultimately led to his gradual downslide.

He was a life member of the Knights of St John and South Erie Turners.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, his aunts and uncles and his brother, Michael J Cummings, and lastly his faithful canine companions, Jake, Buster, Max and Arlo.

He is survived by his loving wife and companion Patty. They were married for 25 years but together in love and adventure for 43 years. He is survived by his stepson, Jeffrey (Tracy) Blackmond.

He is also survived by his siblings, Sr Mary Ellen Cummings OSB, John (Jack ) Cummings of Erie, William (Bill) Cummings of Jacksonville FL, Kathleen Galindo of Texas, Jean (Keith) McNabb of Grove City and Danny Cummings of Erie, and his sister-in-law, Donna Cummings of Erie. His brother-in-law, Richard (Sue) Ozimek of Erie and sister-in-law, Joan Ozimek, who lives in Patty and David's home. He is further survived by his many nieces and nephews whom he loved with all his heart. He will be terribly missed by his furry canine buddy, Enzo.

I would like to thank the hospice nurses, aides and Dr. Eric LaMarre at the Cleveland Clinic for taking such great care of him during this ordeal. A very special thanks to our great friends and neighbors JoAnne and Tracy Masselo without their help I don't know we would have made it through. And also a huge thank you to the many friends (our camping family) who have reached out and helped in so ways.

He will be truly missed by all whose lives he touched. He was definitely one of a kind.

Friends may call on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at Kloecker Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2502 Sassafras St. from 4pm until the time of the service at 7pm. Send condolences to www.Kloeckerfuneralhome.com
