David L. Cummins

1938 - 2026

David L Cummins, 87, of Columbus, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, IN. He was born on May 26, 1938 in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Don J Cummins and Nedra Daily Cummins.

David graduated from Columbus High School in 1956. He proudly served his country soon after graduating H.S. in the U.S. Coast Guard, from 1956-1961. He was stationed in Ludington, MI.

David received an associates degree from Indiana University after leaving the U.S. Coast Guard. He then worked at Cummins Engine Company for several years until working for Brands Lumber Company in 1967, which he retired after 40 years of service as a Sales Manager.

He especially enjoyed mentoring the young people who worked with him through the local High School programs and BarCon Builders for BCSC.

David enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father, brothers and many friends over the years. He enjoyed steam engine tractor's, military aircraft, trains and boats of all kinds.

As we bid farewell to David, we take solace in a life well-lived and in the countless memories he has left behind. A beloved friend, Brother, Brother-In-law and Uncle to many nephews and nieces. A special gratitude to his friend Mary Ann Robbins.

David is survived by his brother Donovan/Jerry (Kay) Cummins, sister-in-law Carol Cummins and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Carol A Legan and brother Larry F Cummins.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Jewell-Rittman Funeral Service & Crematory with Pastor Tim Carter officiating. Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. David will be laid to rest beside his parents at Garland Brook Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
