David “Dave” Franklin Hoskins, 74, of Springville, Iowa, passed away, on Thursday, March 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. In agreement with his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will greet friends from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the funeral home, with Pastor Tom Ertz officiating. Inurnment with military rites will follow at Jordan’s Grove Cemetery in Central City, Iowa.
Dave was born on July 1, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Ellis and Elva (Sewell) Hoskins. He attended and graduated from Springville High School in 1968, and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War. On August 6, 1983, Dave was united in marriage to Carole Margaret McShane and became the loving, always supportive dad to Carole’s daughter, Megan Sova-Tower.
Dave was a guy you could count on. He was always “there” for anyone who needed help with their car, truck, or anything at all. Dave and his friend and business partner, Randy Hochstedler, founded D & R Engines and Machine in 2000. Any day (except Sunday) that you drove by D & R, Dave’s black pickup truck was there. Dave loved talking to people and working on classic cars. He especially loved building engines for some of the nicest Hot Rods in Iowa.
Dave was a devout member of Jordan’s Grove Baptist Church for his entire life. He loved the Lord and his church family. Those “church potlucks” were always a very special Sunday highlight. Dave’s little buddies will miss their very own “bell ringer”.
Dave is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Carole Hoskins of Springville; daughter, Megan (Andrew Tower) Sova-Tower; grandson, Luke Reshetar; granddaughter, Elizabeth Tower; brother, Jim (Doris) Hoskins; nephews, Cory Hoskins (Sarah Eichenberger), Todd (Erin) Hoskins, and Dan (René) Colehour; niece, Amanda Colehour (Dan Sarasin); great-nephews, Drew (Destiny) Hoskins, Carter Hoskins, Sam, Jacob, and Ben Sarasin; great-niece, Dara Hoskins; and sister-in-law, Barb McShane Colehour.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Elva Hoskins; his in-laws, Kenny and Gladys McShane; and brother-in-law, Jim Colehour.
