George Robert Noth, 100, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family with arrangements.
George was born on November 6, 1925, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Carl and Jeanette (Peterson) Noth. He was a 1944 graduate of Davenport High School and went on to serve in the United States Army with the 27th Division, 165th Infantry, Company E in Japan during World War II. Decades later, his contribution as a veteran was honored during a special Madison, Wisconsin Honor Flight on November 4, 2023, an experience that brought recognition to his sacrifices and those of his fellow servicemen.
In 1960, George was united in marriage to Joann Elizabeth Deters in Davenport. They made their lives together, raising three children in Bettendorf, Iowa, until her passing on April 12, 1973. His academic journey took him to St. Ambrose University in Davenport and the University of Iowa in Iowa City, where he laid the foundations for a career that would span several prominent companies. George worked as a computer programmer, contributing his expertise to the National Tea Company and Alcoa before settling into a rewarding tenure at John Deere. He worked there until his retirement in 1999, earning respect for his skill and dedication.
George was also known for his love of sports, golf, nature, and travel, especially Yellowstone. He participated for many years in the John Deere Employee Fantasy Baseball League, where he forged friendships and demonstrated his team spirit and enthusiasm for the game.
George’s life was a portrait of hard work, determination, patriotism, and a commitment to those around him, especially his family. His legacy is one of quiet strength and steadfast values. George valued his life, taking care of his health and nutrition, and was proud to live to 100. He will be remembered with respect and admiration by all who knew him.
George is survived and lovingly remembered by his three children, David (Doreen) Noth of Casa Grande, Arizona, Cathy (Eldonna) Noth of Madison, Wisconsin, and Chuck Noth of Marion; three grandchildren, Spencer, Aiden, and Carlyn; and one sister, Carla Littlefield of Denver, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joann Noth; brother, Tom; and sister, Geraldine.
