David (Dave) Paul Sexton, 72, of Cisne, IL passed away Thursday, August 14, 2025, at his residence.
Dave was born May 25, 1953, in. Canton, IL, to Dale and Charlotte (Cox) Sexton. Dave married Carolyn Sexton on August 7, 1999, at Sam Dale Lake.
Dave had served in the United States Army serving his country during the Vietnam War. He had worked as a Police Officer in Farmington, IL. and then went to work for the City of Flora Police Department, he also worked at Carquest in Flora until its closing. He then went to work for Bob Bailey Farms helping with daily operations.
In the fall of 2003, he then took a position with the Village of Cisne as Assistant Utilities Superintendent, until his retirement in 2020. He continued helping the village after he retired to maintain their equipment. He started as a volunteer fire man for Bedford Township Fire Department in 2004 and was still an active member of the department. until his passing. He was a member of the Fairfield American Legion.
You could call “Dave, the jack of all trades and the master of none” he was always willing to help someone in the community in need. In his spare time, he enjoyed horseback riding, riding four wheelers, and woodworking. The thing he enjoyed the most was spending time with family and friends.
Dave is survived by his wife Carolyn Sexton; a stepdaughter Jennifer (John) Tinsley and stepson Michael (Kristy) Penrod; seven grandchildren; his sisters Judy (Carl) Fink, Lynn Bertelson, Lory Jones and Carol Sexton and one brother Steve Sexton; his mother-in-law Juanita Burgess, sister-in-law Mary (Dave) Potts; also surviving are several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Charlotte Sexton, his stepson, Ian C. Penrod, sister, Kathy Melton, brother, Mark Sexton, sister-in-law, Linda Sexton and father-in-law Carroll Burgess.
A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in Cisne Cemetery. Friends and family are to go directly to the cemetery.
With military honors conducted by Anthony Wayne Post 176 American Legion and Wayne County Memorial Post 4535.
The family has requested everyone dress casually.
Memorials may be given to Fairfield American Legion and will be accepted the day of the services.
