Memorial services for David Dekker, 64, of Mobridge will be at 6 PM, Monday, September 22, 2025, at Kesling Funeral Home. David passed away Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Mobridge Regional Hospital. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.

David Andrew Dekker was born to Fred David and Nancy (Elliott) Dekker on December 11, 1960, in Omaha, Nebraska. The family moved to Mobridge, SD in 1974 when his father received employment at the Mobridge Tribune.

In high school David enjoyed baseball and was a catcher for the local team. He excelled at golf after his grandfather, Fred Dekker, introduced him to the sport. This led him to being a member of the Mobridge High School golf team that finished second in state to the Sully Buttes team that had future PGA brothers Curt and Tom Byrum.

David graduated in 1979 from Mobridge High School. After graduation he worked for Burlington Northern before deciding to move to Maine where he worked for his uncle in the logging business. While in Maine he met his future wife and this is when his son, Curtis, was introduced to the family.

Dave and his family moved back to South Dakota where he worked as a diesel mechanic and then as the golf pro at Hart Ranch in Rapid City.

David and Curtis then moved home, Mobridge, and went to work for East River Lumber & Grain where he drove 48 states. David then ventured into the casino business and found his second passion for dealing cards, especially poker, meeting many new and old friends at the poker table. David eventually found his way back to the Mauck family where he continued employment with Heartland Waste Management.

Being from Nebraska, David was an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He enjoyed his many friends from being a member of the Mobridge Country Club. David always had time to show the youth that were starting out in golf a tip or two.

David Passed away on September 12th, 2025, from Melanoma cancer that had unfortunately spread throughout his body.

He was preceded in death by his father and best friend, Fred David.

He is survived by his son, Curtis of Augusta, ME, his daughter, Krista (Jaret) Hinkley and their children, Dakota-Lynn and Killan of Jay, ME. His mother, Nancy of Mobridge, SD. His sister, Diane Red Legs (Lee) of Rapid City, SD and his brother, Tom (Danielle) Dekker of Custer, SD.
