David DeMartini Obituary

DeMartini, David Charles
GUILDERLAND - David Charles DeMartini, 55, who resided in Guilderland, passed away peacefully on the night of August 21, 2023.
David was born in White Plains, N.Y. on December 16, 1967. He grew up in Colonie and graduated from Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons High School in 1985. From there, David attended Fordham University and later moved to San Francisco and then to Los Angeles. He spent a year in Milan, Italy.
During his time in California, David tried his hand at many things. He helped to open and run Quality Café, which was featured in several Hollywood films and visited by many A-list actors. It was one of the first vegetarian restaurants in the area. At the same time, he successfully worked to receive a degree in floral design. He donated his floral expertise for HIV/AIDS benefits. Sadly, while experiencing life in L.A., David was plagued with illness, which he overcame and persevered for many years. Eventually, David returned to New York where he would reside for the remainder of his life.
During these years, David gained a nephew whom he cherished and helped to raise during his formative years. He treasured their close relationship. David also enjoyed vacations and cruises with his family. He reconnected with several lifelong friends who brought him great joy. David was a good friend to many. He was inquisitive and hilarious. His keen intellect drove him to explore many passions. His witty jokes and smile would light up a room. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Jane Marmo (predeceased by his stepfather, Joseph Marmo); his father, Howard DeMartini; his stepmother, Helen DeMartini; his sister, Denise DeMartini (predeceased by his brother-in-law, Scott Griffin); his nephew, Derik Griffin; his stepbrothers, Chris, Patrick and Kenneth Brown; his stepbrother, Chris Marmo and stepsister, Lisa Lerette, and their families. He is also survived by several cherished aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate David's life on Saturday, August 26, from 12 - 1 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A service will follow at 1 p.m.
David was a grateful organ recipient. Those wishing to honor David should consider becoming an organ donor or donating to cancer research.

Dear Mary Jane, sending my deepest sympathy for your loss of your beloved son David. There is no greater sorrow than the loss of your child and my heart is with you. David lived a wonderful life and surely left you many treasured memories to cherish. My prayer is that they will comfort you and bring you joy. The love of a Mom and her son is a precious gift and will be forever in your heart. I am so deeply sorry for your loss.

I was so heartbroken to read this. I met David when he was a young boy and his father Howard introduced him to our office in the New York State Senate. My prayers and thoughts are with you.
