David G. Derbes, 88, of Pottsville, passed away Saturday, October 25th, at Providence Place Retirement Community, Pottsville.
Born in Pottsville, on January 9, 1937, a son of the late Ruth (Eckert) and George Derbes.
He was married to his high school sweetheart Greta Williams Derbes for fifty-seven years.
He was in the class of 1954 at Pottsville High School. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1960 and was commissioned in the U.S. Marine Corp serving in Vietnam. He was the owner of Dave Derbes Honda/Yamaha Haven and worked for Cressona Aluminum and the Nelson Company in Baltimore.
He enjoyed fly fishing and hunting. He was an avid woodworker and was a juried craftsman with the PA Guild of Craftsmen. He was the founding President of Schuylkill County Trout Unlimited and Schuylkill Headwaters and served as President of the Schuylkill County Historical Society.
He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Pottsville, where he was in the trustees committee.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his daughter Patty Derbes Ebling.
David is survived by his two sons David Derbes, Jr. husband of Maureen and William Derbes and his companion Kelly Lipsett, all of Pottsville; grandchildren Becky (David) Bobersky, Kaley (Eric) Hampford, Kelly Derbes, Logan Derbes, Collin Ebling and Jordyn Derbes; great grandchildren Brynn and Hannah Hampford and Everett Bobersky; son in law Ande Ebling husband of Katherine, Pottsville; his companion Kaye Spangler, Lancaster and his sister in law Anne Gaburick.
A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held 11:00 am on Thursday, October 30th at First United Methodist Church in Pottsville, PA with Rev. John Wallace officiating.
A visitation for family and friends will be held prior from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at the Church.
At the family's request, memorial donations may be forwarded to First United Methodist Church, Fourth and Market Streets Pottsville, PA 17901.
Interment will follow at Charles Baber Cemetery Pottsville, PA.
