David Joseph DeSloover
August 20, 1946 – September 1, 2024
David J. DeSloover, age 78 a lifelong resident of Monroe, passed away peacefully at 1:29pm on Sunday, September 1, 2024 at home surrounded by his family and friends.
Born August 20, 1946 in Monroe, he is the son of the late Joseph A. and MaryJane (Bitz) DeSloover. David attended Catholic Central, graduating with the class of 1964. He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably from July 1964 until July of 1967, which included serving in the 1st Calvary during the Vietnam War.
David worked for a total of 26 years, which included 13 years in both the Monroe Police Dept and the Monroe Fire Dept before retiring in 1997.
David had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. He also loved traveling, flying and all things aviation.
David is survived by his beloved wife Donna M (Begin), his loving children Maria Steinberg, David and Leeann DeSloover Jr. and Heather Disher; his cherished grandchildren; Sarah and Jonathan, Joshua and Claudia, Matthew, Alexandria, Ashleigh, Andrew, Lucy, and Jack; and great-grandchild Zyaire; siblings Janet and Ed Parnell, sister-in-law Laura DeSloover, Joan DeSloover, Joe and Joyce DeSloover, and Jean Ellison.
David was preceded in death by not only his parents but also brothers John, James, sister Dianne, and nephew David (DJ).
Family and friends may visit from 1pm until 6pm with a rosary from 6pm until 7pm on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Rupp Funeral Home, 2345 S. Custer Road, Monroe, MI 48161.
Saturday, September 7, 2024, David will lie in state from 10am until 11am at St. Michael's Parish of Monroe, MI. Mass will begin at 11am. Family invites you to a luncheon directly following mass at St. Michael's Gymnasium to celebrate the life of David J DeSloover.
