David Marion Dillon of Jacksonville passed away on 7 May 2013 at the age of 40. He is survived by his wife, Amber Lee Dillon, who is pregnant with their daughter, Darcy Darlene. David was the son of Richard "Sandy" Dillon of Los Angeles, California, and Tracy Pruett of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by his sister Hannah Dillon; his brother Sam Dillon and wife Ambry Dillon and their daughter Elise all of whom reside in Birmingham AL; his half-brother David Sullivan and his two daughters Amelia and Marion of Gulfport, Mississippi.
Dave is also survived by his father-in-law, Richard Singer of Jacksonville, Alabama, and his brothers-in-law, retired Lt. Colonel William "Tol" Singer and wife Kathy and their daughter Lacey of Enterprise, Alabama; Beau Singer of San Antonio, Texas and Joshua Singer of Jacksonville, Alabama.
David was born on 9 July 1972, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. His father's work with Church audio production allowed the family to travel and form life-long friendships across half the country including Virginia, Washington DC, North Carolina, Louisiana, and Ohio. David was an amazingly creative child. From an early age he began showing a strong talent and proficiency for art in many media. By his early teens he was creating comic books and dozens of films. In Louisiana, Dave created prerecorded and live action puppet shows that he performed weekly. Dave loved the limelight and was involved in Community Theater.
Over the years David worked in numerous occupations including the cruise ship industry. David had an amazing work ethic and took great pride in every job. In his spare time he used his talent in carpentry, photography, writing, electrical work, sculpture, painting and gardening to renovate a 2 bedroom cottage where he and Amber made their home. In his professional and personal life his creativity expanded to include writing, graphic design and web page design. He was continually building things and his Christmas displays were works of art that were admired by all in the valley. People continually drove by the property to see his creations.
David and Amber met while in college at Jacksonville State University, and were married on 6 July 2007, at the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville AL. David graduated with both a Bachelor's Degree in History and a minor in art before earning his Master's Degree in American History from Jacksonville State University. He was an adjunct professor of General Studies at ITT's Bessemer Campus near Birmingham, AL, teaching a multitude of subjects from graphic and web design, art appreciation, sociology and many other courses. David's example of unconditional love, his unfailing sense of humor and comedic timing, his gentle manner, and his creativity have and continue to bless his family and friends. A celebration of his life will be held at First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville, Alabama Saturday, at 1:00 pm on May 11, followed by a fellowship in McWhorter Activity Center attached to the church at 2:00 p.m. at which time family and friends can gather to honor his memory.
