David G. Dornan, age 85, of Roscommon, formerly of Lockport, IL, died on Sunday, November 24, 2024, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
David was born July 19, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of James and Bernice (Begy) Dornan. He attended Chicago Vocational High School and was a pressman by trade. David married the love of his life, Barbara Novak on November 5th, 1960, in Chicago. He worked for Uarco Business Forms for the majority of his career, followed by Standard Register. David was a hard worker and usually worked part time jobs in addition to his full-time work.
David enjoyed his family, traveling with his wife, and cheering at his grandchildren's sporting events. He enjoyed boating, skiing, scuba diving, swimming, and fishing in Higgins Lake. After retirement, David volunteered with the Emergency Management Agency of Lockport, IL for 17 years. In 2021, David began participating in DockDogs, jumping his daughter's dog, Mackinac. They earned invitations to the DockDogs World Championships in 2021 and 2022. David was a skilled handyman and was always willing to tackle a project. He enjoyed playing dartball, and was an active member of the Catholic Church, participating in the choir and the Holy Name Society. He also volunteered as an usher and as a member of the collection team.
David will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his daughters Anne (James) Diss and Carol (Christopher) Preston, grandchildren Ryan Diss, Hannah (Jacob) Teshka, Stefane Preston, David Preston, and Daniel Preston; and great-grandchildren Lincoln and Hadley, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will also be missed by his 3 rescue cats and his grand-dogs, grand-kitties, great grand-dogs, and great grand-kitties.
David is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Barbara; his parents, James and Bernice Dornan; brothers, James Dornan and John Dornan; and sisters, Dolores Sparkman, Judith Swatkowski, and Mary Darlene Joyce.
Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Mass, on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 10:00 AM, with an hour of visitation prior, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 104 North 6th Street, Roscommon, Michigan 48653.
A memorial mass and internment at Resurrection Mausoleum in Illinois will be at a later date.
