After high school, David attended American International College, where he studied psychology and business management. In April of 2008 David married Melissa Barnett, they lived in Irvington raising their two children before moving to Hillside. Even though the marriage ended they remained close friends.

A loyal Green Bay Packers fan, David proudly followed his favorite NFL team each season. Beyond football, he found peace and joy in fishing, hiking, and learning about history-a subject he was deeply passionate about. Above all, David cherished spending time with his beloved son, David, and his nephew, Jah'Cari, creating memories filled with love and laughter.

David also found happiness in the companionship of his two dogs, Zora and Yoshi that would not leave his side when he got home. His creative spirit shined through his love for making music and instrumental beats, producing songs that reflected his passion and creativity.

David's greatest pride and joy was his son, David Dortch IV. As a devoted father, he poured his heart into loving, guiding, and supporting his son, cherishing every moment they shared. His love for family was unwavering, and he embraced his roles as a caring brother, a supportive uncle, and a loyal friend. David's laughter, wisdom, and compassion created memories that will be treasured forever.

He will be remembered for his vibrant spirit, generous heart, and the way he made everyone feel seen, valued, and loved. Whether offering encouragement, sharing stories, or simply being present, David's legacy is one of love, strength, and connection.

Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, David's memory will continue to live on through the lives he touched and the bonds he built. His spirit remains in every smile, every act of kindness, and every cherished moment shared.

Dave loved to steal his dad Garland favorite quote " We Man" with a smile on his face.
