David Edds Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mount Laurel Home for Funerals & Cremation Services, Inc. on Dec. 11, 2025.
In Loving Memory of David Earl Edds

August 31, 1963 – December 9, 2025

David Earl Edds of Mount Laurel, NJ, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025. He was born in Beckley, West Virginia, to the late Linda Sue Carlisle and Everette Earl Edds.

David built a distinguished career in transportation, beginning with the Utah Department of Transportation where he proudly rose through the ranks. Among his many accomplishments, he worked security for the XIX Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City and designed the innovative trucks and systems to paint the lines on state Route 95/Bicentennial Highway and later used them throughout the state. He came to the New Jersey Department of Transportation with the highest recommendations from the Deputy Director of UDOT, where he trained and mentored his coworkers on numerous pieces of heavy equipment and professionalism.

A master carpenter with steely blue eyes and a wicked sense of humor, David enjoyed woodworking, fishing, landscaping, home renovations, and traveling with his wife. He built an arch-topped keepsake chest that his wife treasures, and he built the front porch of his home, a testament to his skill and the love he carried for his family. They will think of him every time they walk up those steps, knowing a piece of him is still there to greet them.

David warmly embraced his role as stepfather and mentor, guiding young people in the neighborhood-including Sam Gibson and Scott Jeffrey-in building, landscaping, and snow removal.

David's love story with his wife Rebecca began when they were teenagers in Ravenswood, West Virginia. They first met when she was 13, dated throughout high school, and then lost touch for 30 years. Twelve years ago, he swept back into her life and into the hearts of her entire family. Their love was deep, abiding, and a blessing beyond measure.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Rebecca; stepchildren Lesley Ogle (Jack) and Ryan Amy; sister Cindy Cattell (Rusty); nieces Sarah Cattell Blake and Julie Cattell (Jose); nephew Edward Jonas "Joe" Cattell (Brianna); and dear friends John Stranahan (Rosemarie), William Feasel (Helen), Terry Kreger, and Philip Amy.

Relatives and friends are invited to David's visitation on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mount Laurel, NJ 08054.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in David's name to the American Lung Association at www.lung.org.
