Shirley "Sam" Ann Edds, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home in Royal, Arkansas, on April 18, 2025. Born on January 17, 1944, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, she was known for her unwavering devotion to her family and her remarkable talent as a caregiver.
In her cherished role as a stay-at-home mom and wife, Shirley devoted her life to nurturing her loved ones. She was a great cook, celebrated particularly for her pies and hushpuppies that brought joy and comfort to family gatherings. Her culinary skills were just one reflection of the love she poured into her role as the heart of her home.
A woman of many talents, Shirley enjoyed collecting any pretty glass or dishes, crafting a beautiful display that spoke to her affinity for art and elegance. Her hobbies included sewing and quilting, where her creativity flourished, and she took great pleasure in gardening vegetables and flowers, cultivating them with the same care she gave to her family. In her younger years, she savored camping and fishing, embracing the beauty of the outdoors.
Shirley’s proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly the family she built. She is survived by her devoted husband, Chet Edds, and her two daughters, Beverly Edds and Summer (Gary) Luker. As well as her brother Donnie Merriott. She doted on her grandchildren, Stephanie, Kellie, Kristen, Eli, Piper, Jessica, and Jacob. She was also blessed with five great grandchildren: Sammy, Wyatt, Gunner, Lexie, and Brady.
They remember her fondly and hold dear the memories they created together.
Shirley is preceded in death by her father, Dewey Edgar Merriott, her mother, Laverne Blocker Merriott, her brothers, Johnny Merriott and Ronnie Merriott, and her grandchildren Alexander Blaine and Zachary Blake.
Her legacy of love, warmth, and tender care will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew her. Shirley "Sam" Ann Edds will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Home - Hot Springs on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 11:00 AM, with Roger Reid officiating. The visitation will be prior to the service on Friday, April 25, 2025 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Burial will take place at New Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
Pallbearers are: Wesley Richardson, William Parker, Todd Merriott, Chris Hendrix, Gary Luker, and Jacob Luker.
