David Edmondson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Browning Funeral Home - Evansville on Mar. 18, 2026.
David Keith Edmondson, 67, of Evansville, Indiana, peacefully passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at home surrounded by his family.

David was born in Evansville, Indiana, on December 11, 1958, to Ira and Mary (Myers) Edmondson. David was a 1977 graduate of Central High School. In his youth, David was an Eagle Scout and an avid outdoorsman. He joined the Scott Township Fire Department at the age of 21 and served on the fire department for 45 years where he served as the Deputy Chief for the Vanderburgh County Fire Department. David began his working career at Nussmeier Engraving and most recently worked as an industrial firefighter for Alcoa, now Kaiser Aluminum. Throughout his career, David exemplified professionalism, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to protecting others.

Outside of work, David had many hobbies and interests. Above all, David adored his family and was the ultimate girl dad. David took an active role in all of his daughter's activities from coaching to 4-H, instilling in them a sense of independence. He cherished being a grandpa and spending time with his grandsons. He loved the outdoors, especially hiking, fishing, and golfing. David also competed-in, and won, several firefighter combat challenges throughout the country. David was an excellent cook, woodworker, and an avid IU and Colts fan. David was the epitome of a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and friend. He will be deeply missed.

David is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Marta (Rasure) Edmondson of Evansville, IN; daughters, Jamie Duncan (Ryan) of Fishers, IN, Kristin Winternheimer (Philip) of Indianapolis, IN, and Hillary Edmondson of Indianapolis, IN; mother, Mary (Myers) Edmondson of Evansville, IN; brother, Kenneth Edmondson (Lois Tenbarge) of Indianapolis, IN; sister, Annette Leister (Steve) of Danville, IN; grandchildren, Asher Winternheimer, Davis Duncan, Luke Winternheimer, Dylan Duncan, and Ezra Winternheimer; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

David was preceded in death by his father, Ira Edmondson.

A celebration of David's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Blue Grass Church Main Campus, 14200 Petersburg Rd., Evansville, IN 47725, with Rev. Doug Heiman and Rev. Ben Lovell officiating.

Friends may visit from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Blue Grass Church Main Campus.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Vanderburgh County Fire Department Foundation for the creation of the David K. Edmondson Scholarship Fund, 1540 E. Baseline Rd., Evansville, IN 47725.

The family would like to thank: the men and women of the Vanderburgh County Fire Department; Community Paramedic, Dawnyel; K9 Ember, Enhabit Hospice, especially nurse Bailey and Kaiser Plant Protection for all of their compassionate care and companionship.
