David Allan Ellis, 79, of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on January 25, 2026. He was born on November 24, 1946, in
Alliance, Ohio.
David grew up in Ohio and graduated from West Branch High School in Salem. He built a career in sales, specializing in fire and industrial products. Known for his integrity and easy manner, David formed lasting relationships with colleagues and clients alike.
David served in the Army National Guard, an experience he carried with quiet pride. Outside of work, David knew how to enjoy life. He loved fishing, playing golf, and spending time outdoors. He was happiest with a rod in hand, a dog nearby, or a project underway around the house. He had a natural ability to make people feel comfortable, and his sense of humor and friendliness left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Above all else, David was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Ellis; his son, Jim Ellis, and Jim's wife, Dawn; his daughter, Rebecca Ellis; and his grandson, Hiatt Ellis, who brought him great pride and joy. He is also survived by his brother, George Ellis, and sister-in-law, Maureen; his sister, Linda, and brother-in- law, Scott; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss him deeply.
David was preceded in death by his parents, George Albert Ellis and Lilian Dawson Ellis; his brother, Greg Ellis; and his nephew, Michael Ellis.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on February 7, 2026, at Lifepoint Church, Pine Valley Location, 3534 College Road, Wilmington, North Carolina 28412.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in David's memory to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare at lifecare.org, Share the Table at sharethetablenc.com, or Paws Place at pawsplace.org. These organizations reflect David's compassion, generosity, and love for people and animals.
David will be remembered for his warmth, his laughter, and the genuine way he loved his family and friends. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a legacy of kindness that will continue to live on in all who knew him.
