David Wayne Erickson, age 72, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away on January 2, 2026, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on September 11, 1953, in McPherson, Kansas, the son of Carl J. Erickson and Mary Elizabeth (Anderson) Erickson.
David grew up in McPherson and lived much of his life in the surrounding region, including Wichita. He attended Kansas State University, where he earned a degree in chemical engineering. He was employed as a chemical engineer at what was then known as the Derby Refinery earlier in his career.

He enjoyed working with his hands, especially gardening and playing the piano. In his adult life, he lived with serious health difficulties that affected his ability to work and participate in many parts of life, yet he continued to hold close the same love and commitments that defined him earlier in life. In his later years, he resided at Peabody Care Center, where he received the support and care he needed.
He is survived by his children Don Erickson, Roger Erickson, Christina Hoffmeyer, and Greg Erickson; his siblings Marlys Elbert, Sherry Fields, and Ron Erickson; and his grandchildren Jackson, Edson, Avery, Theon, and Dylan. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Stockham Family Funeral Home in McPherson. A memorial service will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at New Gottland Lutheran Church, followed by inurnment at New Gottland Lutheran Cemetery.
