David Farnsworth Obituary

Published by Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service - Iowa City on Sep. 9, 2013.
David Lee Farnsworth, 59, of Solon, died unexpectedly, Monday, September 9, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, September 13, 2013, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, where visitation will be held from 4 to 7 pm Thursday. Burial will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in David's memory. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. David was born January 30, 1954, in Iowa City the son of Robert E. and Evelyn (Aubrecht) Farnsworth. Following graduation from City High School in 1972, he attended and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1978. He joined the Iowa City Police Department in 1979 and served his city proudly until a service connected injury forced an early retirement. He currently has been employed by Metro Concrete of Cedar Rapids. Dave enjoyed his life in many ways; he was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Green Bay Packer Fan, through thick and thin. He liked to snowmobile, watch NASCAR, Fox News, the Military Channel, and bald eagles. Dave was one of those guys that would help anyone and everyone, whether they asked for it or not! Had a tendency to collect things, heck he was a hoarder! Some quirks of his, the rain gutters; obsessive in cleaning them to the annoyance of a few, especially his daughters! But what many will remember was he always had time for his friends and family, he loved them dearly and was loved by all! His family includes his wife, Jo who he married on May 10, 1990; his daughters, Lauryn and her husband, Andrew Rich of North Liberty; Sydney Farnsworth of North Liberty; step-daughter, Meredith and her husband, Kirk Logan of North Liberty; step-son, Alex Ball of North Liberty; 4 grandchildren, Jaxyn, Preslie, Korbyn and Shae; brother, Bob Farnsworth of Iowa City; and sisters, Dorothy Farnsworth of Iowa City and Sue Rojohn of Grinell; near and dear friends from Dave's childhood, Don and Mary Rae Reece; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Barbara Hill and Karen Braselton, and an infant daughter, Taylor Jo.

Jo and family;
I was so shocked and sadded when I go the phone call Monday night about David's sudden and unexpected passing. Though its been many years since Dave and I worked together I will always remember him. He was a fun co-worker and we all had a lot of laughs.
May your memories of him provide you comfort and peace in the days ahead.
