David Ferrier Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory - Souderton on Mar. 5, 2026.
David "Dave" J. Ferrier, 65, of Sellersville, Pennsylvania, formerly of Perkasie and Doylestown, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Grand View Hospital.

Dave was the loving husband of Carla J. (Freed) Ferrier, with whom he shared the best 43 years of his life. He was blessed to have four of the most talented and wonderful daughters a man could ask for. As his wife and daughters often reminded him… he never had it so good! Accustomed to being outnumbered 5-1 by his daughters and incredible wife, Dave was thrilled when those numbers flip-flopped following the acquisition of three exceptional sons-in-law and three fine young grandsons. In his own words, this demonstrated that "there is a God!"

Born in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, Dave was the son of the late Robert K. Ferrier and Emma Jean (Wolfe) Ferrier. He was a graduate of Pennridge High School, Class of 1978, where he attended the Vo-Tech school, specializing in carpentry.

From a young age, Dave had a strong work ethic. In high school, he was a painter and carpenter. He also worked in the restaurant business where he developed a life-long hatred for seafood. Upon graduation, he pursued a variety of careers: he was a deliveryman for the former Eagles Peak Spring Water in Fountainville, a salesman for the former Histand's Equipment in Doylestown, and an installer/maintenance tech for the former AD Supplies Inc. in Willow Grove.

Dave's professional sweet spot was fixing things and working with his hands. He thrived when solving impossible problems and he enjoyed "magyvering" solutions to nearly anything. To that end, he worked as a maintenance supervisor at Marcho Farms in Franconia, in the maintenance departments at Devault Foods in Devault, the former Canopy Foods in Downingtown, and Moyer's Chicks in Quakertown. In addition, Dave spent the majority of his career as a self-employed contractor operating Fortress Services in Sellersville. His professional motto was "if you can't be handsome, be handy!"

For many years, Dave was a member of Doylestown Mennonite Church, where he faithfully served as a youth leader, trustee, Sunday School teacher, and member of the prayer team. At the time of his passing, he was a member of Finland Mennonite Church. Faith was an integral part of his life, and he prayed regularly for his family.

At heart, Dave was an outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and visiting the family cabin in Tioga County. He was at peace in nature and found great joy in sharing his outdoor interests with others. He especially loved small game hunting, particularly grouse and woodcock where he had the chance to train and work with his hunting dogs. Dave introduced many people to the fine art of small game hunting and he was always ready for another trip to the mountains! Each year, a major highlight was his annual deer hunting trip with family and friends. More recently, he loved watching deer visit the feeder at home. He was an enthusiastic member of the Arnot Sportsmen's Club in Arnot, Pennsylvania.

In his younger years, Dave loved playing baseball, excelling as a catcher behind the plate. As a member of the Doylestown Mennonite Church softball team, he loved playing catcher as well as coaching. Dave was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan who waited semi-patiently for 58 long years before finally seeing the Birds win a Super Bowl in 2018. He was a prolific reader, a competitive card player, and an avid motorcyclist. He enjoyed growing sunflowers and running his roadside produce stand in Sellersville.

Dave will be remembered as a hardworking, honest, and loyal man with determination and strength. He was innovative and a natural problem solver; an "ideas guy" who was always dreaming up new things. Dave could easily see the talent in others, and he was adept at drawing out their skills. He was a good teacher/mentor who enjoyed passing his knowledge along to others, particularly in regard to his trade and hunting. Dave loved telling stories; with his quick wit and sharp sense of humor, he exuded the "Ferrier charm."

In addition to his extraordinary wife, Carla, he is survived by his four amazing daughters: Jacqueline B. Landis and her husband, Brandon of Telford, PA; Stephanie N. Gehman and her husband, Jesse of Canadensis, PA; Jillian M. Ferrier of Nazareth, PA; and Samantha R. Canaviri and her husband, Nathan "Danny" of Midland, TX. He is also survived by his three lively grandsons, Micah S. Gehman, Caleb M. Gehman, and Asher J. Gehman, all of Canadensis, PA. Dave is survived by his brother, R. Kenneth Ferrier and his wife, Linda of Perkasie, PA; and his sister, Carol A. Dierolf and her husband, Michael of Perkiomenville, PA.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Finland Mennonite Church, 1750 Ziegler Road, Pennsburg, PA 18073, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 a.m.

Interment will take place at Line Lexington Mennonite Church Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory, Souderton, PA. Online condolences may be offered at www.andersfh.com.
