David Fitzsimmons, age 72, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated dairy farmer, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. He was a lifelong resident of Mineral Point, where he was known for his hard work, kindness, and unwavering love for his family and community. David married his high school sweetheart Cheryl Symons on June 7th, 1975. They had three beautiful children, Amber, Kyle and Luke.
David found his greatest joy in farming, a passion that defined much of his life. Tending to his dairy farm was not just a job-it was his calling, and he took immense pride in caring for the land and his livestock. Beyond the fields, David was a proud veteran of the Army Reserves which he served in for 6 years, and a longtime member of the Mineral Point Odd Fellow Lodge #1. Outside Mineral Point, "Colonel Hogan" might be heard on the CB/HAM radio halfway around the country in Florida or even Hawaii. For many years this was a passion and hobby, which led to an extended family that he valued so much, he risked his life erecting an antenna to the roof of a silo to get the best signal.
A man of quiet strength and a warm heart, David was a respected figure in Mineral Point. Whether lending a helping hand to a neighbor or sharing stories, his presence left a lasting impact on those around him.
David is survived by his devoted wife of almost 50 years, Cheryl; his loving children: Amber (Steve) Arrington, Kyle (Brittany)Fitzsimmons and Luke Fitzsimmons; and his six cherished grandchildren: Olivia, Caleb, Owen, Rylee, Zade and Lavender, who brought him endless pride and joy. He is further survived by his mother, Kathryn Fitzsimmons (Bickford), and siblings: Duane (Barb) Fitzsimmons, Dwight (Cathy) Fitzsimmons and Lemoyne Stogin; and many neices, nephews, other family, and friends. His legacy of love, hard work, and dedication to family will live on in their hearts forever. Dave is proceeded in death by his father, Edwin Donald, Jr., and brother, Doug.
In lieu of flowers, contributions made directly to the family to plant an apple grove in David's memory are greatly appreciated
