David Fleming Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Greely Funeral Home on Feb. 18, 2026.
David R. Fleming, husband of Denise C. (McGovern) Fleming of Gloucester, MA. passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Addison Gilbert Hospital.

Born in Gloucester, MA on October 23, 1957, Dave was the son of the late John T. and Madonna (Synard) Fleming. Guided by the love and devotion provided by his parents, Dave and his six siblings grew up in a home centered on faith and family. Throughout his life, he found strength in prayer and maintained a commitment to God that was steady, humble, and sincere.

Dave attended local schools and graduated with the Gloucester High School class of 1976. For many years, he was employed by Glass Dimensions Inc. of Essex, MA as a lathe operator and glass craftsman. He then joined the staff of American Renal Associates in Beverly, MA as facilities manager, working until his retirement in 2021. He was admired for his strong work ethic, quick-thinking, and problem solving expertise.

Dave's favorite memories include time spent with his beloved granddaughters. Poppy, as he was affectionately called, enjoyed constructing tree forts, dancing the Twist, bike riding on Stacy Boulevard, reading books, and watching movies with Evelyn and Laura, just as he had done with his daughter, Caroline. He was looking forward to making new memories with the family's most recent addition, Catherine.

Dave's interests were varied. He enjoyed traveling throughout the country with his wife, Denise; taking walks along the back shore, gardening; learning about local history and classic cars; creating unique recipes for haddock chowder and cheesecake; and tackling home improvement projects at his "fixer upper" on Mt. Pleasant Avenue in East Gloucester.

For many years, he volunteered at Holy Family Parish as an usher and coordinator of offertory collections and assisted members of the local chapter of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He will be remembered as a generous friend and helpful neighbor.

Dave was predeceased by his parents John and Madonna Fleming, and his brothers John Fleming, and Arthur Fleming.

He is survived by Denise, his wife of forty-one years; his daughter, Caroline Gill and her husband, Keith; granddaughters Evelyn, Laura, and Catherine Gill; brother Brian Fleming and his wife, Tamara; sister Lisa Ciluffo and her husband, Paul; sister Laurie Fleming and her husband, Russ; sister Madonna Fleming; sister-in-law Brenda Fleming all of Gloucester, MA, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

Visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, on Monday, February 23, 2026, from 4-7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ann Church, Holy Family Parish, 74 Pleasant St. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Dave's memory to the St. Vincent de Paul Cape Ann, 74 Pleasant St., Gloucester, MA 01930. For online condolences, please visit www.greelyfuneralhome.com

I remember the whole family, they lived " down the lane" from me growing up.
Funny because the lane was really another street up the hill from me.
All great people.
Sorry to hear about your loss of a good person.

Words cannot express how much Dave will be missed. I had the privilege of working with him for 10 years, and over that time we became great friends. He was one of the most sincere, authentic, giving, and thoughtful people I have ever known. He always showed up for others with kindness and generosity, often putting everyone else before himself.

I´m especially grateful that I was able to spend time with him this year. He will be deeply and forever missed-the world has truly lost a piece of goodness. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and all who loved him.

This is such sad news. My thoughts and prayers are with your family for the Lord´s peace. I had the pleasure of working with Dave at ARA. Dave was the best guy! He was like an energizer bunny- he never stopped. He was the most friendly and helpful person anyone could meet. He had a positive and kind personality. If you were in Dave´s company smiles were abundant. I will always remember his humble heart and steadfast Catholic Faith. Rest in paradise, Dave.

Yesterday

My deepest condolences to Dave´s family. I knew Dave from his time at American Renal and I think I can speak for everyone that Dave touched every single person working there with his kindness and compassion. He wore many hats; he was the unofficial welcoming committee to every new team member, the unofficial secret Santa handing out gift cards and tins of popcorn, and the Official Dad every time someone blew a fuse with their personal heater. Please know that Dave will be well thought of by everyone he worked with.

Dave Fleming was one of the best, at former ARA, this is shocking. I'm so sorry for his wife, family, friends & coworkers. After Dave retired from ARA he would reach out to me to see how I was. When ARA was sold, to IRC he still wanted make sure I was OK. He always welcomed me into his world. Such a kind, caring, man, husband, father & 6grandfather. I'm in shock, rest in peace my friend.
