David Lester Franklin

David Lester Franklin, "Dave", age 82 of Collins, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Born June 26, 1943, in Venice Beach, California, Dave was the beloved son of Avon William and Anna Jane (Bailey) Franklin.

Dave's early years were spent in California before his family relocated to Kansas, where he graduated from high school in DeSoto in 1961. On July 13, 1972, Dave married the love of his life, Maryle Parks, and together they built a lasting partnership rooted in family and community.

Dave was a dedicated entrepreneur, owning and operating Jon Top Countertops from 1976 until his retirement in 2004. His work ethic extended beyond business; he was also a passionate farmer and raised livestock.

Outside of work, Dave found joy in riding motorcycles and was a proud member of the Neighborhood Knights riding group. He treasured time spent outdoors, whether gardening, caring for his land, or simply enjoying nature's beauty.

Dave is survived by his children: Cindy (Craig) Mitchell, Mike (Kristi) Sexton, Rhonda Day, Ron (Amy) Franklin, Julie (David) White, Todd (Becky) Sexton, Doug (Nicole) Franklin, and Bob (Anne) Franklin. He is also survived by his siblings, Sarah "Sally" Fitzgerald, Larry Franklin, as well as 23 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Maryle in 2012, his brothers Bob, John, and Arthur, his sisters Wilma and Joyce; and two great-grandchildren, Logan Goettsch and Amelia White.

A funeral service honoring Dave's life and legacy will be held 2 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2026, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home, 1418 Fawcett Pkwy, Nevada with Pastor Tom Lee officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery in Collins, IA. A reception will follow the burial at the Collins Community Center.
