James "Jim" Richard Griffith, age 69, of
Ames, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 14, 2026, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Jim was born on July 24, 1956, in
St. Paul, Minnesota, to Donald Albert and Elizabeth "Betty" Christine Johnson. He spent his formative years in St. Paul, where he graduated from Harding High School in 1975 before continuing his education at Century College.
Jim began his professional career working in the print shop at Billy Graham in Minnesota, a role that not only shaped his career but also led him to meet the love of his life, Laureen Ann Winters. Their friendship blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and the two were married on May 13, 2000, in Bloomington, Minnesota.
Over the years, Jim dedicated himself to various lines of work. He contributed his skills to Digital Direct and embraced a new occupation driving school buses for Wilson Transportation in Pennsylvania and later for First Student in Ames. His work ethic and reliability were evident in every role he undertook.
Jim's faith was an anchor throughout his life. He was a devoted member of Heartland Baptist Church in Ames and previously served as a member of Westlawn United Methodist Church in Reading, Pennsylvania. His spiritual commitment was matched by his love for music; he enjoyed playing the piano and found joy in sharing music with others. Jim was an accomplished bowler and had a special place in his heart for children, especially babies.
A perfectionist at heart, Jim took great pride in maintaining a beautiful yard during the summer months and keeping his driveway clear of snow in the winter. His attention to detail was apparent in all he did, whether tending to his home or helping neighbors.
Above all, Jim cherished his family. He was especially close to his brothers and nieces, and his gentle nature and warmth made him a beloved presence at family gatherings. Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Laureen "Laurie" Griffith; his son, Robert Griffith; his brothers, David (Mary) Griffith and Kent (Gail) Griffith; and his cherished nieces, Jessica (Scott) Demulling, Kylie (Logan) Gove, and Grace Griffith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Betty Griffith, and his nephew, Jeremy Griffith.
Jim selflessly donated his body to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, to help further the education of future healthcare professionals. Inurnment will be on the Mayo Clinic Campus in Rochester, Minnesota.
A celebration of life service honoring Jim will be 11 a.m. Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Heartland Baptist Church in Ames. Family will greet friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. A reception will follow the service at the church.
