Such sad news that Dave Gallaher ( microwave Dave)had passed , he has been a legend around Huntsville for as long as I can remember.
We saw him at so many events over the years , including my husband David Vidler 60th surprise birthday, where Dave gave Dave a harmonica , and said the next time I see you I want to hear you play it Dave still has it .
He was a fantastic musician , and person , did so many good things around our area .
This is so sad RIP Dave, you will be so missed

I met Dave in the late 80s when he was moving out of Huntsville to pitch his songs in Nashville. He stopped by my store, the Fret Shop and parked his old Ford station wagon in front, with all his belongings, including his Amazon Parrot, inside. He told me he had to see my store before he left. As we talked he fingered a vinyl LP of Bix Biederbecke and told me he played Dixieland Cornet. That´s the day he began to commute back to Huntsville to play with my band, Tuxedo Junction. For about a year Dave played every gig with us on Cornet, flute and guitar. His versatility and ear are beyond comparison. When I heard his original blues, answer phone message, humorously about Chairman Mao, etc. I said, "Dave you need to play the blues!" I should have kept my mouth shut because it wasn´t long before he formed Microwave Dave and the Nukes. We have remained good friends ever since. Ironically, At a recent funeral, I told him that he was partly responsible for me becoming an ordained minister (Grateful Life Community Church). He absolutely refused to take any credit for that, but I know he deserved it. All he wanted to know was, how was my wife, Marjie. I will miss his music and even more, his loyal friendship.

This photo was taken at WLRH in December 2024 when Microwave Dave borrowed the "winning guitar" from the recipient of a drawing.

I could always find Dave at the noon service on Wednesday at Nativity. I remember when he played the dedication of the labyrinth. He gave so much to Huntsville in so many ways. I hope he knew how much he was loved and admired, and always will be. Pax

Dave and I lived in the same neighborhood in Bellaire, Texas, same street, same elementary school. As kids in the '50's, we both had cheap guitars, learned some basic chords from his mother and tried our best to play like the Everly Brothers. A few years later, we both took up the drums. But music aside, we had great times as he was as good a friend as you could have. I extend my condolences to his sister, Gail and his brother, Tom.
