David Gary Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Owen Funeral Home - Dixie Highway on Dec. 23, 2025.
David D. Gary, 86, passed away at home surrounded by his family on December 23, 2025. He was born on October 28, 1939, in Butler County, Kentucky, to his late parents, Hettie B. and Reddie Gary.

He was a man deeply proud of his faith in God, which guided the way he lived and loved others each day. A founding member and devoted deacon of Unity Missionary Baptist Church, he was a familiar and welcoming presence, spending countless hours greeting every visitor with a warm smile and a kind word, making all who entered feel truly at home. After 33.5 years of dedicated service, he retired from General Electric, carrying with him a strong work ethic and pride in a job well done. Above all, he cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, finding his greatest joy in their laughter and lives. He also had a special love for his 1998 Corvette Indy Pace Car.

David was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, R.O. Gary, W.T. Gary, and Ralph Gary; and sisters, Christine Carroll and Kathleen Pence.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Christine Gary; children, Becky Dorner (Fred), Brad Gary, Brian Gary, and Regina Reffett; grandchildren, Andy, Autumn (Andrew), Olivia, Noah, Sabra, Chelsea (Kevin), Tildon, Breanna (Andrew), Cora, Garyn, and Emma (Brandon); 18 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

David will have his funeral visitation at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy., on Friday, December 26, 2025, from 12:00-6:00 PM. His funeral service will be the following day at Unity Missionary Baptist Church, at 11:00 AM. A private burial will follow the service at Chapel Union Church Cemetery in Morgantown, Kentucky.
